Classic skiing (Adventuring) 2:16:00 [1] 6.4 mi (21:15 / mi)

Rootbeer Ridge - Catamount - Moses Pond. Rode viola special klister was awesome, but it was slow going, the snow was pretty bumpy, and although it was crusty and just starting to soften up (my favorite spring conditions), the open streams sort of slowed things down, and the waves were bad enough that we took some loopy routes to avoid the bumps, as they were the perfect size to break a ski. Then the descent from the ridge was pretty hairy, since neither of us knew the trail, and we didn't know when the snow would run out into dirt/rocks/cliff, so we were being pretty conservative. That and we'd gone up the gradual part, and were coming down the steep part. It was pretty sketchy, but awesome. Sort of like yesterday.

Then Ed broke a ski trying to see if he could ski over a downed log, but he broke the tail so skied out just fine.

This was followed by ~8hrs of fun at the sugarhouse, with Ed's southern cousins, who make their own moonshine. Interesting people.

other (Alpine skiing) 5:00 [0]

Skiing all day with the heels locked down at Magic mt. Not much snow, and we got there too early so it was still all iced up, but after a couple groomer cruisers the bumps had softened enough that they weren't suicidal anymore. Ed thinks I'm crazy for skiing red line (the narrow one with the cliffs under the lift) with minimal snow cover, I think it was awesome. Can't wait to go back with my teles and some actual snow...

Cycling warm up/down 24:00 [1] 4.5 mi (5:20 / mi)

To/from Watertown track. I should probably just run here, but 2 miles seems so far when its still dark out...
7 AM

Running intervals 38:10 6.86 mi (5:34 / mi)
ahr:162 max:186

w/up: 800m jog, 4x jog the turns stride the flats.

4x 1000m L3, 200m (until 2min) rest. Shooting for 7:10 pace, because thats what Daniels thinks my threshold should be, but I was a bit too fast on all of them.
4:13 (AHR180)
4:23 (AHR178)
4:22 (AHR180)
4:25 (AHR179)

800m jog cooldown, my socks had no elastic left around the cuff and had slid down in the wetness (I should mention it was officially GROSS outside, rain turning to sleet turning to snow with the temperature dropping and a steady wind) and my shoe was rubbing the outside of my ankle raw, so 800 seemed like a perfectly adequate cooldown, especially as I produced no lactic acid.

This avg. HR is too low for threshold, its more tempo pace, so hopefully that means that once my legs get up to speed, I'll be faster. The intervals certainly didn't feel hard enough, but I also don't know how my body responds to running speedwork right now. Regardless, I'm happy nothing broke while I was running.

Then I got home and it took a solid 20min in the shower to thaw out.

Yoga/Stretching/PT (Stretching) 6:00 [0]

Running 17:00 [1] 1.7 mi (10:00 / mi)

From Oak Grove to Flynn Rink, a couple detours as I took wrong turns. Should have checked the map first.

Running 1:07:49 4.27 mi (15:53 / mi) +435m 12:04 / mi
ahr:151 max:179

Rock circuit trail again, with Erin, Cate, and Cate's dad. That was fun, but my kneecaps still hurt. At least the plague seems to have cleared up and I'm not coughing green goo anymore.

Orienteering (Street-o) 40:00 [2] 4.5 mi (8:53 / mi)
12c

Harry Potter street-o by Lori. Went to all the regular controls and one mystery memory control, I think I should have done the denser controls first just so as to increase my chances of finding pieces of the map. Kneecaps are still quite sore.

Running 15:00 [1] 1.6 mi (9:22 / mi)

Jogging home from the T. My burrito from three hours ago was not sitting well in my stomach, that was uncomfortable.

Core Strength 6:00 [1]

Note
(sick)

I skied 24 hours last weekend. I might write about it later. It was a pretty bad idea, but give me a couple days and I might think it was fun. I'm not too broken, but I am sick - it was sort of weird feeling my throat getting tighter as I skied through the night. No lasting soreness other than my lower calves/shins, and no pain except my kneecaps, which feel about forty years older than they should. Ed showed up for a day 1 morning lap, and Ali showed up for a day 2 morning lap, which was nice of them, but otherwise it was Ken and Greg and me skiing back and forth on a snowmobile trail with crappy snow for 24 hours, doesn't that sound like fun?

More of a story.

Yoga/Stretching/PT (Yoga) 10:00 [0]
(sick)

The CSU skiers brought in a yoga instructor, so I went along - he was good, it was a very basic class but great to focus inwards for a bit. The calves/stabilizers feel much better now.
