Cycling race (MTB) 1:00:00 [4] 7.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

First part of the Bikes for Bovines race. Starts with a 6 mile uphill, and I was surprising myself by climbing really well, with some people I normally can't hang with. Using the sports psychology stuff - I love hills! I'm good at hills! Maybe it did work. Anyway, went over a sharp rock on the uphill at about 3 miles, and this put a small hole in my tire and developed a slow leak in the tube, so it was going kind of squishy. For a while I told myself I was making it up, but then there was a short downhill and it was definitely a little too low to ride. So I changed the tube with my spare, but I think I got some mud in there, because shortly thereafter I noticed this one going squishy. I only had one CO2, because I don't have a small pump, and I'd used it up, so I just kept riding the squishy tube, until an innocent-looking grassy downhill that was hiding a sharp rock that gave me a pinch flat and a dented rim. Game over. This was an expensive day...

Cycling 50:00 [1]

Walking/jogging the bike out to the aid station at 8 miles and then putting enough air in the slow leak tube to get me down the mountain and back to the start. Plus 20min warmup. Then I packed up and drove to Rochester.

Cycling (MTB) 3:00:00 [1] 20.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Turner road to Moses Pond to the Catamount to that other road that avoids the beaver pond expansion to Danby road back to the Catamount up the relentless hill to Utley Brook trail up Landgrove road cross Holt mt. Three major climbs, but used the granny gear to stay L1. Beat the thunderstorms. Happy day.

Running warm up/down 24:00 [1] 2.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Attempted to classic rollerski and my binding broke in half, so went hillbounding instead.

Hill bounding/ski walking intervals 42:00 [4]

4x Prospect Hill. L3 ski walk for the steep part and then on the flatter part I picked up the pace to almost all out. The last one was a testament to how the first two were too hard... 4:07, 4:00, 4:10, 4:18. Hot and humid. Measured HR at the end of each one was 192.

Cycling (Commute) 42:00 [1] 13.0 mi (3:14 / mi)

Biking in to the city and then back out, after walking 2 miles barefoot in the rain because of a flat and having all my tools up in VT... just a shitty day so far.

Cycling warm up/down (MTB) 25:00 [1]

Cycling intervals (MTB) 54:00 [3] 13.0 mi (4:09 / mi)

6x6 on, ~3-5 off. Pretty unenthused about this, HR was pretty low for what the effort felt like. Focusing on putting down the power and keeping it down even on non-uphills, but it just felt hard. Still tired...

Orienteering 45:00 [2] 3.5 mi (12:51 / mi)

Follow the leader type of training, since Brendan neglected to bring the maps, but luckily Wendy had an old map of pine hills in her car, so we basically just took turns with it. Definitely running harder when the boys led; twisted my ankle near the end but it seems ok.

Yoga/Stretching/PT 10:00 [0]

5-6min yoga in am, slept horribly thanks to the heat and humidity. more stretching after orienteering, while waiting for Ian to materialize.

Note

Drove from VT to Newton. Heading back to VT tomorrow afternoon (I was on the all-important alcohol run for the wedding), and then Rochester Sunday night after V's wedding, to see Tira before she stops breathing... hopefully she'll make it that long.

rollerskiing (Skate) 1:42:00 [1] 20.0 mi (5:06 / mi)

To South Londonderry and back. 3x10min no pole, and 30min double pole. Hot.

Running warm up/down 37:00 [1] 3.5 mi (10:34 / mi)

Spenst 20:00 [5]

7min agility, then spenst: two-footed hops, one-footed hops, tele jumps. Right leg has gotten worse, coordination is off too, not just strength.

Core Strength 36:00 [2]

Note
(rest day)

If I can't muster enthusiasm to ride my bike, I'm taking the day off...
