Northampton 5k. New PR for this course, though I'd sort of been hoping to break 20 again like last fall on the road. Ah well, wishes don't get tallied in your training log. Nice running weather, 53F and blustery with brief spatters of rain.

I started fast, because that's the fun part, and it goes downhill out of the start. Maybe someday I'll run this race smartly, but I have more fun going fast down the hills. The only problem with that strategy is you spend the entire first mile letting people pass you, but my downhill and uphill speeds are more different than theirs. At least I ended up passing back the little mexican kid who passed me up the first hill. Things started to hurt partway into the second mile, I kept wanting to look at my watch, but that accomplishes nothing toward finishing the damn race faster, so I managed to ignore it.

I was in no-man's land after The Hill, and kept losing focus. I probably could have hurt a little more on those gradual uphills after The Hill, but then again, it's easy to say that now. Overall, I'm satisfied - fitness seems to be there, speed is coming.

Could have used a smidge more cooldown, but didn't want to make people wait too long for delicious mexican food dinner!
