Good day for orienteering.

AP splits readily show where I "lost" time. If you look just at the legs where I did not lose time, I would have come in ninth. But I actually came in 20th of 24 finishes because of the other six leg.

The first control was at a small bridge across a rentrant. There is no way you would even notice this, and other, bridges in the map unless someone told you about them. They are represented as black dashes on the map that are barely distinguishable from the trail dashes. But I did ask about them before the start, so I knew I was looking for a small wooden bridge. I found one immediately when I hit the trail... but no control. It turned out the one I found was too small to map. So after being confused for a bit, I searched the trail for the actual bridge. Time lost.

The second and third controls were root stocks on a flat forest floor littered with downed trees... can you say bingo contol? I'd love to see the time of day that each person reached these controls to see how many were in the vicinity of someone else when they found it.

The fifth leg I have no excuse other than it was a tough leg and I should have done better.

13th leg I screwed up badly... pulled in the wrong direction by people around me. This is also when my left calf injury started to hurt badly, so starting on this leg I had to walk the rest of the way.

I also lost time on the leg to the finish. It was an easy leg but was concerned abOut my calf so hobbled in slowly.

There were seven legs that six or more people lost time on. I lost time on six of those seven. So I lost time on the toughest legs. I think I was one of the first to start, so that didn't help my chances.

All that said, it was great to be out on a sunny spring day. Some trees and flowers have already blossomed in this part of the country.

Started out on normal morning run and the base of left calf started to hurt. It was bad enough that I had to hobble home. It's 36 hours later and still hobbling some. This is killing my plans to run Blue at O' meet near DC Sunday. Worst case I can walk orange or green.
