Running Trail 21:00 [2] 2.25 mi (9:20 / mi)
shoes: XT Wings 2

Warm up run on Highland GC before circus.

Circus 55:00 [1]

First time to do jump rope at circus. This is the kind where two people hold a big rope and a third person jumps. Two ropes and it's called "double dutch". We did variations on that. Including dive rolls through the single rope and double dutch.

Another long (for me anyway) road run -- the second in 48 hours. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but rationalized it anyway.

Friday morning I was supposed to run around Como Lake (7 miles) with the neighborhood running group. For a number of reasons I didn't get out of bed early enough to do that, so I did an "empathy" run Friday after work instead. I sent email to the group to inform them that I was not a total slacker, and how it would have been more fun to run with the group. One of the group responded and said, "Great, we're doing 10 to 12 Sunday morning, want to join us?".

I responded and said I had to go to church. But I told my wife, gee it would fun to run with the group. To which she replied, "You don't have to go to church -- go run." Now I had no excuse. I knew I wasn't really ready for a 12 mile road run, especially after 7 on Friday evening, but I went anyway.

The run felt good, but as were getting close to home my legs were tired so I left the group (actually only two other people) and walked home. No pains during the run, but now, a couple hours later, I can feel my Achilles in both legs. I'll try to get on the bike tomorrow and start the recovery process. I need to be ready to prance like a deer next Saturday or toddp will leave me for the vultures in the Black River forest.

ahr:154 max:179 shoes: Asic GT-2150

Road run from home, around Como Lake, and back. Roads were mostly clear, but there were a few stretches with snow and ice.

Not sure why it recorded my heart rate max as 179. I certainly wasn't working that hard.

Swimming 2:00:00 [0]

Famly swim at the Edge in Duluth (joined by Wrobel-Smiths)

Hiking 1:00:00 [0]

Family hiking in Duluth near the lift bridge and at a couple spots long Park Point Beach. Impressive winds and waves were the site of the day. 30 to 45 mile per hour winds crashing on the shore, blew water and ice into our faces. We saw a father and two boys washed along the sidewalk by a wave that came over the canal wall. They were not hurt, but got wet and cold.

Swimming 1:00:00 [0]

Family swim at the "Edge" waterpark in Duluth.

Note

Taking the family to Duluth next week. We were waiting to see if there would be enough snow left to cross-country ski on Wednesday. Not it looks there will be too much snow. The forecast is for more than a foot of new snow on Wednesday!

OTNT special Saturday edition at Standing Cedars reserver near Somerset, WI. Thanks to toddp for setting (and dragging me around part of the course). I don't remember a tougher 6 mile "run", but if I did one at some point in the past, I'm sure my brain would have helped me forget it. Excellent workout though. Great weather. Nice crowd. I couldn't have asked for a better "free" workout.

My new gators did not work very well. They kept falling down. They still kept snow out, but very annoying that they fell down. After I bought them I read on the label that they are sized for men's boots, so they would probably work great on boots.

My feet were wet and cold the entire time. Colder than I would like but bearable. Still hoping for less snow two weeks from now for BR ROGAINE.

Note to self: get some new sunscreen.

Circus 55:00 [2]

Tumble track, low wire (tight rope) and low casting (low trapeze).

Good workout on the low trapeze tonight. It's 24 hours later now, and I'm tired and sore, but well worth it. I'm starting to think I want a trapeze at home now.

Presented the MNOC setter/vetter class tonight. All the students had at least five years of experience. Most of them were experienced adventure runners too.

Must train for the ROGAINE. I wanted to get in at least 2 hours on my feet so headed out without a clear destination in mind. Ran with gaiters so I could go cross country at will, and did so at Town & Country GC and in the river bottoms. Actually ran in the new fallen, frozen slush and snow whenever I could. It's more work, but easier on the body than frozen concrete and asphalt.

Circus 5:50 [2]

Triple Trap and Spanish Web. Good upper body workout. It's two days later and my forearms and hands are still fatigued.
6 PM

X-Country Ski (Classic) 26:17 2.27 mi (11:34 / mi) +38m 11:00 / mi
ahr:143 max:174

Two loops at Highland GC on the shortened track. Not sure why they shortened it. This was a warm up before circus. Maybe my last ski of the year?

Running Road 43:37 3.91 mi (11:09 / mi) +94m 10:22 / mi

Still have a cold, and did not feel like running -- but yet felt the need for a run. Took the campus bus to west bank and ran back along the transit way which is generally clear of snow, ice and traffic.

Cycling Road 42:34 6.38 mi (6:40 / mi) +38m 6:33 / mi

Got my bike working, after many months, and took it to the grocery store and back.

My head cold feels such that I don't want to run, but this easy bike ride was good.

X-Country Ski (Skate) 35:00 [1]

U of M with my son. I'm still sick, so this was a "shuffle". I am looking forward to my head clearing up soon.
Conditions were not icy, but close. Time for some new snow.

Thursday Mar 3, 2011 #

Running Road 25:00 [1]

Walk about and down Montreal before circus. Still have a bad head cold, so didn't feel up to running.

Circus 55:00 [2]

Tumbling, pyramids and trampoline.

Note

I did not get much exercise for 10 days while traveling to India and back, but now I have a horrible cold. Arrrgghh! I hope I am well enough to ski this weekend -- we won't have good snow much longer.
