X-Country Ski (Classic) 30:00 [2]

Ski with family at Como. Did a little race with Chase and we tied. He with his chaotic style, and me with no poles.

Thursday Jan 29, 2009 #

Running Road 1:00:00 [3]

Good run this morning with Neighborhood group.

Wednesday Jan 28, 2009 #

Kung Fu 1:00:00 [1]

Easy intro class to something like "southern 5 animal kung fu". First night: tiger. Whole family participated. It was a little slow and complicated for the kids. We'll see if they are willing to go again next week.

X-Country Ski (Classic) 36:00 [3]

2 loops at Irondale trails with Ian and PFC. For some reason it was colder than we were all expecting. But it was toasty warm at Barley John's for the cool down.

200 sit ups - Week 1 Day 1

I actually started with Week 3 Day 1, second column. I managed to get through them all, but was very sloppy at the end, so I'll be backing off some for the next day.

X-Country Ski (Classic) 25:00 [1]

Skiing and running around in my ski boots, while Chase did 2k race at William O'Brian State Park.

X-Country Ski (Classic) 55:00 [3]

Around the entire loop at Como 37 minutes.
Two extra times around the smaller back loop, 9 and 8 minutes respectively.

Started out intentionally slow, and that helped alot. Gave me time to warm up. I went faster overall and felt much better at the end. Another 20 years and I'll have this skiing thing figured out.

Snowshoe 1:08:00 [3]

From home to big loop on U of M golf course early this morning.

Weights 3:00 [3]

I was going to do the 100 push up program, but have decided to wait until after ski season. My shoulders have been bugging me a bit, and I think it's related to skiing. I don't want to make it any worse, so going to pass on the push ups for a while.

Instead, I will pursue the 200 sit ups. Initial test:
41 (it seems like just yesterday I could do 100)

X-Country Ski (Classic) 1:20:00 [1]

Help Chase's ski class. Also did a few short loops on my own. Was tired from skiing yesterday. Not a good sign, but not worried about it. Nice day. Moderate temps and snow falling most of the day.

Saturday Jan 17, 2009 #

X-Country Ski (Classic) 58:00 [3]

3 times around the wooded loop at Irondale Trails. Time was roughly 18, 20 and 20 minutes respectively. I start out too fast. I need a warm up loop next time.

Weights 2:00 [3]

Initial Test for Jerrit's suggested 100 push up program:

14

That gets me into "Rank" 3 -- just barely. I'll wait til Monday to start week 1.

Snowshoe 50:00 [4]

Nice run this evening. Very cold, so I zig-zagged on the portion of the U of M golf course south of Larpentaur. That area is in a large depression and has a few trees, so not quite as windy. Even still, by the time I got home my mid-section was getting cold. Still nice to remind myself it is OK to workout when it is cold like to tonight with -5 ambient temp, and very cold wind chills.

It was darker in the forest than I was expecting, but out on the golf course I could see lots of stars in the sky.

X-Country Ski (Classic) 2:23:00 [3]

Ski to beer. Wirth Park to Isles/Calhoun Lagoon. Great event. Nice day.

I didn't go nearly as far as the fast people. Does not portend well for loppet day when we do the 10k tour. Not even sure if I went that distance. Must ski more. Luckily it is snowing again (and more tomorrow).

X-Country Ski (Classic) 40:00 [1]

Shuffle with e' around Como. She went a long way for only her 2nd time out.

X-Country Ski (Classic) 41:00 [3]

Once around Como. Conditions were faster than last time. I was able to ski up many uphills with my new skis, so was pleased about that. I didn't go much faster downhill even though the conditions would have allowed for it. Since I fell hard last time out, I was wary of going down the hills fast in the dark. I only fell once, and that was on the flats. Unfortunately I fell on the same spot on my right arm as last time. It's now a nice greenish hue.

X-Country Ski (Classic) 30:00 [1]

Shuffle around Como with Ella.

X-Country Ski (Classic) 45:00 [3]

One loop around Como. Track was mostly crappy. Slow up and slow down. One bad fall in which I cracked my right forearm on the ice and now have a nice egg to show for it. Weather was great and I certainly got a good work out.
