Orienteering race 1:18:33 [5] **** 10.3 km (7:38 / km) +310m 6:38 / km
spiked:18/30c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Gauteng long champs,

Needed a good race to make up for the middle. Started off badly, losing three minutes at number 2, was scared that alex would catch me and then winning would be a bit harder. Lost like 20 seconds on number five, just faffing pretty close to the circle not quite understanding everything in the area. 6 was very bad, ended up 200 metres to the right of the control, a lot due to , i think, the recent felling in that area so the map wasnt quite right there, eventually found the gully 200 metres to the right and took a bearing back into the control and found it. tied my shoe laces on the way to seven +-30 secs :P It was a bit of a re focussing thing for me. was too high on seven and hit the road, 8 I was too far south and lost like 20 secs there, I was behind garry and martin and probably others at this point, from 9 until 21 I was very clean through the controls. to twelve I went the safe route, down to the road and smashed it down there and also spotted a good route for 14, then lost some time close to the circle. 13 was decent, used the single tree nicely. destroyed 14. caught nic cooper on the way to 18 and 18 and 19 I was running like a beast. lost 20 secs on 23, and 25 lost a bit of time also, and then I was pretty sure that it was mine to lose, so took the rest pretty slow to make sure i didnt throw it away and really tired.

Orienteering race 22:44 [5] 2.9 km (7:50 / km) +90m 6:47 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

SA sprint champs,

Pretty shitty area for a sprint, it was really just a short event.

It got quite interesting in the ruins, but besides that really boring.

Quite a bit of hesitations going to 1,2,3

Lost about 20seconds at four where I was too far to the north. I think the map is a bit wrong here.

6 was rough so choosing the right line was quite important, 9 I think I took the best route against the fence but then slowed down a lot after it by stopping at the wrong control and then not being sure of how high in the forest the control was. 16 was horrible, probably lost a min and a half there.19 was also difficult and i ran right past it, 20 secs again.

Still got the win tho :) I think most people had shitty runs.

Orienteering race 46:07 [5] **** 4.8 km (9:36 / km) +80m 8:52 / km

Gauteng middle champs,

Really excited for this one, running in some nice technical forest before JWOC, and it turned out horribly.

spiked the first two, so feeling confident probably too confident, 3rd one i lost about 20 seconds, 4 and 5 were decent, 6 was really bad, Im not sure how I stuffed this one up, and I'm still not quite sure which boulder hill I was actually looking around. 8 I picked the wrong gap between the thicket hills. 9 lost time, ended up too far right. decent again up to 13, then my massive mistake was at 14. chose a solid route choice, going past the water point and paced it down the road, tried to use some thickets on the left to see where to enter the forest, ran around in the forest for 8 ins too long, just never got far enough over. eventually my dad led me into the control. the rest was also shit, trying to at least get a medal.
