Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]
slept:6.0 shoes: Montrail Vitesse #2

The schedule for the next couple days is going to be tight.... Got up early to get laundry from the cleaners in prep for trip to Boston on Sunday.

Wanted to get to Babler early: 1. To run the course before it got sloppy and 2. So I could be at the finish to handle the SI downloads. Drove out with Rudy and got there about 9 and helped Yvonne get set up. Surprisingly, a bunch of people started to show up at 9:30.

During the warmup, feet and legs felt pretty good and I know Babler pretty well, so I was looking forward to a good run. Was wishing I had cleats/spikes. Some day....

Quite pleased with my run. Finished 4th. 13 minutes behind Eric and David, 1 minute behind Jeff Sona.

Fast, fun course although OCAD says the course is 6.33k vs the advertised 7.1.. Made one route mistake between 5 and 6 that added no distance, but added 3 contours of fairly steep climb. Missed the first trail and ended up south. Otherwise, I felt like I was really into the map and nav was spot-on. I don't think I could have done much better on this one. Certainly a pace PR.

Except for the road run to #1 (should have gone red line), footing wasn't all that bad. Spikes would have been nice, though.

Planned on picking up Yellow course but thankfully, Sona's picked up the last 4 or 5 controls as they did the course with they're kids. Picked up a couple yellows and a couple oranges.

Boy was it slick and sloppy where there'd be a lot of traffic!

A good 5 or 6 inches of fluffy white stuff overnight. Shoulders are definitely feeling the rowing....

Cardio (power snow shoveling) 25:00 [4]
slept:7.0 shoes: Montrail Boots

Well, another disappointing STL snowfall. I think we got a whole inch after I shovelled at 9PM last night.

Note

I don't think I mentioned yet... I moved to new space at work about a week ago.

If you're on 40 east of Mason, look north. I'm on the 3rd floor in a triangular pointy area. Black bldg with a red strip. Closest to Mason Rd.

I've got windows facing easterly and westerly. Birdseye view of 40. Lot's of sunlight. I feel much better during and at the end of the day now. Of course, sleeping better doesn't hurt either. But there may be a connection between the two.

Cardio (power snow shoveling) 20:00 [3]
shoes: Montrail Boots

another round of shovelling.... about 1.5 inches of crusty sleet.

Cardio (ERG) 1:00:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: ASICS #3

Last 10 minutes were tough to take. My glutes just don't have enough mass to provide sufficient padding....

Strength (ups, weights) 35:00 [3]
slept:7.0

Cardio (power snow shoveling) 15:00 [4]
shoes: Montrail Boots

Shovelled the driveway as quickly as I could. About 1.5 inches so far, so more aerobic than strength.

Terrain 1:10:00 [3]
slept:8.0 shoes: Montrail Vitesse #2

Went out to rockwoods today with Rob. Planned to go check the final control on the goat and then check the orange course.

The run out to the goat control and the run back we're at an ok intensity level. Spent a lot of time looking for the control and then about 10 minutes looking for Rob.

This entry is for the run out and back. Guestimating on the time.

Long leg out to control loc on roads and trail. Came back a different route that included a good hill climb.

Little bit of snow to make it pretty and slick. 20F. Overall, a good day to be in the woods.

Terrain 50:00 [1]

Another oddly mapped rock feature. There just doesn't seem to be much consistency with the mapping of rocks and rock faces. In the last few weeks I've probably spent 10+ hours out on this map and I still don't know why one rock gets a triangle, one gets a small dot, another gets a larger dot, a rock face, or a 'cliff' symbol. It's almost like different people did the field work.

Today, there were rocks near the control locaton. Three different symbols used for rocks of nearly the same size.

Also, I didn't feel like the contours accurately reflected the terrain in this particular area. I'll have to go back and look at it again.
