SUP 1:50:00 [3]

SUP session at Half Moon Bay, basically Mavericks. Surf was too low for maveicks to break which was good because I would not be there if Mavericks was pounding. We surfed Mushroom rock and Ross's. maybe 6' waves.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (24:00 / mi)

Corporate Event with my work in a redwood forest SE of Half Moon Bay. 2 hour rogaine, it was a blast. I got teamed up with 3 other people from work who had never orienteered. I convinced them that we should bushwhack down to a creek where I proceeded to creekteer (hot theme lately for me) to the next checkpoint. Linda from tax wanted her shoes to stay dry, so of course she climbed on my back for about a 1/4k treck up the creek. Classic. We had a blast and I expect BAOC to get a surge of Bay Area orienteerers based on how much fun everybody had. Of course happy hour after the event helped everyone get into it.

adventure racing race 15:00:00 [5]

Didn't have in me to break out the categories...race was: bike, run, bike, run, bike, paddle, bike, run.

Raced with jvg and rasputin. We crushed our own dreams...one rookie mistake at a time.

Scale on map 1 was 1:14,000 would have been good for me to recognize this before starting ... we blasted past cp 1 and 2! Made our way back to cp1 where we collectively mis interpreted th RD specific instructions of the flag being on the river and misprinted. We speant 1 hour creekteering. Just about to throw in towel and we went to the plot, just above the creek and found the flag right where it was plotted.

Into TA dead last. King richard was there and he had a good laugh. I wasnt to happy with my blunder, sorry team.

Trek was absolutely beautiful and we had fun...lots of roadkill. We moved fast and hit everything right on.

Back in striking distance were off on bikes. Cp9 was my next blunder. Lack of mapped roads and similar features hosed me. Then i remembered i had a 1:14000 that also covered the area, found the right spur and bingo.

Best and most exciting screw up was cp12. Dropped bikes to ascend 250 vertical feet to top of a forested knoll...left map and compass in bike map case. DONT DO THIS. It was dark and we topped out right at the cp. Boom, turn around and head down. Should have been easy, it wasnt. We got into a reentrant that sent us the wrong way and into the wrong trail. This is the type of shit movies are made out of. We ran the full distance of this trail twice and entertained ourselves with another creekteer. We build a map out of rocks and sticks and decide it best if we go back to the cp. At the top jvg extracts the backup compass ... doh, head east! Back to our bikes and we are back on the hunt...holy cow.

Rode some sweet single track. Crushed the next trek, found out the lead teams were like 2 days ahead of us. Biked back to the TA. Paddled at like 2.5 horse power, jvg half slept through the paddle. She woke up when we paddled into a floating flock of ducks (slice needed help on bird id's) and one flew off her paddle into my chest/pfd. Awesome.

Final bike and trek were pretty uneventful...saw the DA's and another team finish as we were headed out...congrats to them for a stellar race.

Good training/tune up for worlds and lots of fun racing with JVG and Sean.
