Trail Running race 9:00:00 [4] **** 40.0 km (13:30 / km) +4921ft 11:22 / km

This was one of the harder nav's I have encountered. Mostly due to the inclement weather and the fact that 2/3 of our time was in the dark. Our lights in the rain/fog did very little but light up the clouds that were within 1 meter of your face. We hit some CP's right on, but had a tough time with some as well.
We chose to start with the south side that we thought might be a bit more challenging and then planned to head to the north section. I think this might have been a bad choice. There were a higher concentration of CP's on the North side (on roads) and more cp's on the south side seemed to be spread out.
We spent 1 hour looking for a CP on the south side of a lake (bushwhacked to it from the north side CP) and threw in the towel when we were within 10 meters of it. We returned to it in the morning with light and from an alternate attackpoint and found it much easier. tough love.
We also got turned around on the most SE CP on a ridge. Totally socked in and raining sideways for about an hour the team was falling asleep and doing circles...love it. Worked our way to it (by heading east to the ridge and south), and it looked like it was next to a bomb crater? Would like to see it in the daylight, at night in the fog I was convinced it was a bomb crater....glenn?
We got to the monster bushwack under the power lines to get to the N section at 7 and realised we were low on time and that the cost benefit for crossing the river would be no good.
Overall, awesome course and very challenging. We loved it and it was nice to be back in the gruesome pacific NW weather. Congrats to mergeo for running a solid race and crushing the rogaine, you guys deserve the Victory.
Can I start eating ice cream and drinking beer yet.?.?
