Note
(rest day)

Decided to take a rest day and let Left knee settle. A pity, I was 3rd yesterday and third overall in Mens B. However that would have been difficult to defend, and Oceania is a bit more important, so "Let it Go".

Pyrmont, XMas 5 days, Day 3. Stuffed up route choice, got to my last control on 38 minutes, so basically had 5 minutes spare. Had got all the close ones, so went back out and got #3. Still got back 2 minutes early. So should have planned to get them all (Like Mel Cox did) - probably would have gone overtime by a couple of minutes, but that would have been 580 instead of 540. Hot day, running OK, but left knee starting to niggle. May pull out of tomorrows race.

Teering race (Xmas 5 Days) 14:23 [4] 2.38 km (6:02 / km)

Cockatoo Island, Day 2, Men B. Not quite as sluggish, but more hesitatnt on this good course in a complex area. Thought I was trapped near 3 until a Swede ran past and pushed open a door. Near 12, needlessly ran up 2 flights of stairs and then back down again; that was the biggest mistake.

Georges Heights, Day 1, Men B. Sluggish. Ran past #1, thought it was on the other side of the building. Stuffed #6, went straight at it and had to turn back around the building. Missed #8, did a lap of the emplacement. Biggest mistake was #23 - when I looked at it on the run I thought left and right were 50:50, but left looked like straightforward running, When I finished I looked at it again - "You Bloody Idiot".

Fingal Bay Park Run, 8th (20:38 official). Only my 5th logged "Running, Race" since the World Vets in 2001. Early start and humidity meant I felt less than ideal, but fitness is good at the moment and I paced reasonably well, with the inevitable slow down in the middle. Settled down in 10th place early and was up to 9th after 1km. In-law Craig came past me at 2km and I thought he was gone as he got a good gap. Caught back up to him after the downhill near 3km and went past. "See you at the finish" he said, but then he came past again later. Dug in up the second last hill and this time opened up a significant gap. Turnaround at the boat ramp and dug in again up the last hill, to get into 8th. 7th wasn't too far ahead but he sensed danger and pulled away. I slowed down a bit too much near the finish (run through the line!) and nearly got caught by Craig's massive sprint from nowhere.
