MTB Orienteering race (Aus Champs) 1:03:47 [4] 11.95 km (5:20 / km) +198m 4:56 / km
ahr:133 max:156

Kiwarrak State Forest, Taree. Middle Distance M50. Another poor performance: just not seeing the fastest routes - 1, 2, 3, 4 = then 5, 6, 7, 8 were straightforward but missed the way into 9 and the best routes to 10, 11, 12, 13. 14 was only a single option and I missed the fastest to 15 (through the finish) but I'll blame the map for that one. So ended up way down again.

Fitness wasn't really an issue I think but MTB skills certainly were - only 1 race in a year doesn't help retain skillz.

Chain was a little bit better behaved today but still slipping and a couple of times that was crucial. Also stopped me changing gear because I wasn't confident it wouldn't slip as a result.

MTB Orienteering race (Aus Champs) 1:18:35 intensity: (1:00:00 @4) + (18:35 @5) 22.47 km (3:30 / km) +231m 3:20 / km

Cairncross State Forest, near Port Macquarie. Long Distance, M50. 10th. Pretty poor effort compounded by losing 7 minutes on no. 7 when I couldn't get on to a single track looking for a couple of different entry points. That was a bad route choice anyway, so compounded the error.

Rob Garden, the easy winner, passed me on a rough track; I was doing about 25kmh, but he was doing at least 35 - very impressive. Well, he was on a 29er.

Chain started slipping immediately and was bad throughout - this is the new chain and the new cluster. Thought I had broken it again at one steep pinch.
