Teering race (Sydney Summer) 45:32 [4] 8.0 km (5:41 / km) +118m 5:18 / km

Gladesville, Looking Glass Bay. Hot and Hilly. Most of the controls were in cul de sacs, out and back or all the way down and back up, so not the most enjoyable course. 39th overall.
Failed in the quest for a category win by 10 points after spurning many opportunities to get there.
* Lost 30 secs plus at 23 not reading the description, then another 20 ran down the wrong road to 13.
* Shouldn't have skipped 10 and 11, would have been better to link them into the early Hospital loop.
* Ran down an unmapped lane before 27, then missed the mapped one because it looked the same - another 30 seconds plus.
* Then the major mistake - Should have skipped the two far west controls 14 and 26 - way too far. Ran out of time and came straight back having to skip 5, 19, 9, 17, 22 and 6. All would been possible had I skipped the west and all were also possible anyway if I'd been running a bit quicker.
* Should also have got 2, as I was within 100m of it on the way to 24. But panic and the heat had set in at that stage.
* Finally lost another 15 seconds running down the wrong bush track near the finish which might have brought a sprint finish into play.
All in all a terribly scrappy day.
EDIT: Had a look at the splits and found another one! Most of the field somehow knew that you could get between 5 and 12 on the foreshore - it wasn't obvious on the map. Only 10 of the top 80 didn't do that, and only 4 of those including me went far west as well: Glen Horrocks, Patrik Gunnarsson and Ross Morrison were the others.
