Teering 44:13 [5] *** 4.0 km (11:03 / km) +150m 9:19 / km
spiked:10/12c (injured) shoes: Inov8 XC Talon212

Australian Relay Champs at Warby Ranges - M21AS, 2nd. Disaster. Slammed my left knee into a branch after no. 1 and it really hurt. The adrenalin kicked in for a couple of minutes and then as it swelled up the pain just got worse. Walked most of the last half.

So quite happy to contribute to a team badge winning effort, but severely downcast at WMOC preparation so compromised.

Teering (Aus Champs) 55:22 [5] *** 6.1 km (9:05 / km) +250m 7:32 / km
spiked:10/12c shoes: Inov8 XC Talon212

Australian Long Distance, Warby Ranges, M50, 2nd. Well, that was unexpected, I had figured on being injured today. Happiness turns to a little bit of frustration when I looked at the splits though - I beat Geoff on 8 of 13 splits and was over 2 minutes in front, over half way around. Then came a long leg which wasn't set the way I like it, doh! The wide way round on the easy running was much quicker (as they often are) and I didn't see it until I had committed to straightish. I pulled out and went right, but probably lost the race there (2:22 slower than Geoff). Then I lost it again on the next control, losing 2:09 to Geoff on a miniscule gully on a steep slope - his winning margin was 2:05. Personally I would not have used that control site.

Teering race (Aus Champs) 16:09 [5] *** 2.8 km (5:46 / km)
spiked:10/12c shoes: Inov8 XC Talon212

Benalla. Australian Sprint Champs, M50, 1st. That makes 4 in a row (Oz champs 2006, Oceania 2007, Oceania 2009) so very happy. However the downside is that it wasn't that quick or clean. Missed 30 seconds by overshooting no. 1, and also ran past 5 for another 45 second loss. Never really felt like I was running quickly either. So probably not good enough for next week.

Really strange area - grassy hollows along a river bank with lots of big wide route choice: or swim the river. Hadn't expected that so kept my feet dry. Geoff Lawford tried one river crossing but pulled out of it - that cost him 1 minute and the win.

Cycling (Floreat) 1:30:00 [4] 44.0 km (2:03 / km)

The last gasp of winter with a bit of rain and wet roads, but it couldn't stop the sun rising behind us as we set off up the Boulevard. Six great months ahead! Going well, at the front up the hills.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2] 2.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: ASICS Gel Evolution 4

Teering race (Shortz) 15:30 [4] *** 3.4 km (4:34 / km)
spiked:15/17c shoes: ASICS Gel Evolution 4

Curtin University, last chance training. Achilles sore in warm up and after, but it didn't affect the race, hopefully that will be the case in the next 3 weeks and 8 races. A minute down on Sten's time from the 2007 race, so not particularly happy with it.
