John Forrest. Cold a lot better today, restriction is breaking up. Time doesn't include stops to put out the control stands and flags.

Note: up to 18th in the AP ranking. I'm guessing that's going to be an all time high. And although Tooms didn't get the Series lead yesterday (wait till next week), he did move ahead of me into 17th place.

Cycling (To Freo) 48:00 [3] 19.5 km (2:28 / km)

Into the Doctor. Took it easy.

Aquinas College. 5th and just held on to the Series lead, as Tooms could only manage 4th. A bit lucky, as the cold restricted my breathing and I could have finished a lot further down (but not 26th!). Coughed up everything I could in the warm up. Missed 7 and 9, twice. According to the GPS lost 6, 12 and 6 seconds respectively - not enough to collar Tooms!

Brookstead (Royal George). Day 3, M50, 5.5km SL. First start, not feeling good, coughing etc. 11th, Never really got going. Nearly gave up on no. 2 after standing around for a while looking for the pits (-1). Found myself standing again at no. 3, this time on the attack point which I couldn't identify from the map. Had approached saying "If this isn't the control I'm in big trouble". Spotted the flag 60m away after 15 seconds stood still (-1). Slow up the hill to 4 on the track but had the 8th fastest split. Went out of 4 in the wrong direction and crossed the track I had been on without seeing it (-1:30). For 6 showed my inexperience in steep spur-gully - thought I got it OK but Geoff Lawford was 2 minutes quicker (-1). Got 7, 8, 9 well in the rock detail. OK to 10, passed by Toeby Imhof (SUI) here. To 11 lost track of where I was and relocated off two massive log piles near the track walk to the start. However, as these were mapped as hills and not impassable green I got it wrong (-1:30).

So lost 8 minutes in mistakes and more in speed. However even mistake free I would have struggled to get close to Lawford and Imhof who are looking good for WMOC09. Lawford has previously finished 6th and 7th at WMOC and will be looking for a win. Imhof is a real threat in the sprint - won the sprint at WMOC2006 (15th in Long) and beat me by 2:30 in the Elite Prologue on Friday.
