MTB Orienteering race (Goatfarm) 1:43:24 [5] *** 17.3 km (5:59 / km) +410m 5:21 / km

Very hard work. Could be on for a sick relapse here. Unfit and had to walk most of the (massive) hills at the end. Lost a lot of time in various ways.
-1 Good, caught Guy Harvey for 2 minutes, (he won the 1stMTBO event this year)
At 2 -20s looking for the right track
To 4 -30s, missed the track in
To 5 -30s, fell (felt click in L ankle)
To 7 -20s Turned wrong way on bitumen
At 7 -2.00 On the wrong track completely, Guy went further.
At 9 -4.30 Rode past it. Guy got ahead.
To 11 Saw John Carney (2nd) ahead: I had caught 4 mins (at least)
To 13 - good, took left hand route and distanced Guy again. Passed Carney on the way up to the control as he got some bum directions.
To 14 -20s Map fell out, Carney passed me back.
At 14 -20s in the circle, but got there ahead of Carney.
At 14 -30s talking to Tim (possible newcomer next time?)
To 15 -40s went wrong way after (left not right). Saw Carney going away.
At 16 -1.00 missed an earlier track to get up hill.
To 17 -2.00 Very bad route choice decision. Carney went the other way and that was the last I saw of him. Allowed Guy to catch up.
Last section - very tired, walked all the hills.
Total loss 12 mins.
Note
Needless to say, pretty surprised to be the winner. Obviously retained just enough fitness to be competitive, and Bill Chalmers's bike helped a lot, especially uphill (Norco aluminium). Absolutely shattered in the afternoon - had to go to bed for a sleep: a very rare occurrence.
1 ER, 2 Jay Carney, 3 Tooms, 4 Dalto, 5 Guy Harvey, 6 tRicky, 7 TQ. Duncan won vets from M McN. Cath won womens.
