Teering race (Easter) 1:03:38 [5] 5.6 km (11:22 / km) +150m 10:01 / km
(sick) shoes: Innov8 Mudclaw 270

Day 3 High Plains S. Starting to feel better - probably 90-95% of running capacity now. It might have been better if I'd been sicker! Started in more like my usual fashion and was 2nd overall by no. 2 with the fastest split on that leg. Then disaster! I had to find a control between an 8m and a 6m boulder. Lost 8 mins here running around like a headless chook. Was always too high, found it easily enough when I decided to attack from the very top of the hill.
Decided to make the next one easy by going down to the fence. Mistake! Couldn't find the fence bend and ran 500m too far - lost 4 minutes. 21st at this stage, but hauled myself back up to 9th on the day with 9 top 3 splits in the remaining 15 controls - 1 minor error at 16 forcing myself to cross a clearing much more obvious on the ground than the map (-45s). Once again the mistakes cost me a clear second place.
Really quite amazing to come away with 5th overall when I was severely underpowered and finished 11th, 5th and 9th on the 3 days.
