Teering race (Xmas 5 days) 30:06 [4] 3.42 km (8:48 / km) +129m 7:24 / km
ahr:129 max:152 shoes: VJ Bold

Macquarie Woods, Day 5, mp.
Ok so I've been doing the Xmas 5 Days for a long time, 8 times since 1996 in fact with wins in 1996 (Men B), 2011 (Men C) and 2012 (Men D). Since 1998 its been best 4 of 5 in the ones I've been in - for Men A in 1998 they had a chasing start for that and best 4 from 5 for the others. In 1996, it was all classes chasing start.
Even in Orange in 2002 it was best 4 from 5 - on Day 2 they organised a MTBO and ironically that was at Macquarie woods, todays venue. So in 2002 I took a day off the foot O and went in the MTBO.
This year however, it "appears" it was either all days count, or best 4 from 5 as long as you didn't mispunch one of the days - don't know which I didn't see any info on this point. Well I did MP today. In fact I gave myself multiple opporunities to do it and took 2.
Firstly, as I said I was planning to maybe pack yesterday in early if it wasn't technical enough - but it was.
Secondly, I thought maybe I wouldn't start today to give the feet a rest, but they weren't any worse, so I started.
Thirdly I went to the wrong no 1, but checked the code before punching.
Fourthly I went to the wrong no 4, punched, checked the code and got the right one, phew, so far so good.
Fifthly I blew no 8 spectacularly ending up running at 90 degrees to where I wanted to go and ending up at no. 11. So yep, decided the feet had had enough, thought I had the comp wrapped up anyway, I'm not going back for 8, 9 or 10.
Sixthly, no.13 was in the wrong spot. Got to the right feature, a cliff, no control. Checked around for a while, doing a comprehensive search of the cliffs below, no - no control. Then saw Rob Rapkins arrive at the right spot, look around for a bit and then go uphill and punch a control on a boulder near a creek. Strange I thought - I had seen that flag before, but seeing as it was a long way uphill and on a different feature I had thought well there is no way that is no. 13. Went up there with Geoff Peel, Rob Vincent and Shingo, who had all also first checked the right spot and yes it was code 46. Decided to move it.
However - I didn't punch it while I was transferring it - so second MP of the day.
Seventh opportunity - I punched the wrong last control on a fence, checked the code, not mine, oh yes, mine is that one across the road on a fence, go and get it. Terry Bluett mp on that one, but not me.
So there you go, I had 3 wins and a third place, a substantial lead, but no overall place apparantly.
More irony -had I not moved the control the course could well have been voided, gifting me the overall win.

Ophir Diggings, Day 4, Men D, 1st. Had decided to start, take a look at the map and pack it in if the course didn't include much in the diggings. But it did, so all good. Ran well enough, foot was OK, no mistakes.

Kahlis Rocks Day 2. Tentative and slow. It was duck in, duck out and I chose most of those: paid for it when I went straight particularly at 6 (-1:20) and 14 (-1:40). Cath mostly quicker in the bush sections.

Charles Sturt University, Day 1, Mens D. One fumble and a bit hot. Duncan Currie led early, I didn't have a fast start this time, but consistency paid off.

Passed by a group in Kallara, who said they were doing Bobbin, so held on. That is until halfway up Bobbin. Still did an 11:10 PB and they waited at the top - there was one guy behind me.
(took out 8:17 stopped at lights).

Core Stability (Pilates) 1:00:00 [1]
weight:77.2kg (injured)

MRI Findings:
There is moderate thickening and hyperintensity of the intraosseous component of the Lisfranc ligament, consistent with subacute injury. No fluid filled cleft is visible.
The thin dorsal component of the ligament is also mildly thickened and hyperintense consistent with injury.
The plantar oblique component of the ligament is not clearly seen but there is immature scar tissue in this region.
Alignment of the tarsometatarsal joints appears maintained.
There is low grade bone marrow oedema of the base of the 2nd metatarsal and of the overlying middle cuneiform, and there is patchy oedema of the medial cuneiform.
There is moderate localised subchondral bone oedema on both sides of the medial cuneiform joint, associated with full thickness cartilage loss and an area of subchondral cyst formation.
The interosseous ligament between the medial and middle cuneiforms is mildly thickened and hyperintense.
The appearances indicate a line of force through the Lisfranc ligament, the medial and middle cuneiforms, and the medial cuneiform/navicular articulation.
No widening of joint spaces nor interosseous distances is visible. No fracture line is seen.

Subacute injury to the three components of the Lisfranc ligament, with proximal injury extension to involve the interosseous medial/middle cuneiform ligament, and the articulation between the medial cuneiform and the navicular with full thickness cartilage loss.
Maintained alignment on these non-weight bearing films.

Hiway-Bobbin Head-Mt Kuringai-Hiway. Lost GPS data after I had to do a master reset on the 210 (hold Light to turn off, Hold Start+Reset, Now hold light; let go Start, let go Reset, let go light).
Pretty slow. Cicadas very loud on West Bobbin.
MRI on Right foot yesterday; still sore walking after 4 months - past time to see what the damage actually is.

Missed the first NSCC group, but got on the back of the second. Still passed Forest Way at 7:10. Guenter was late, and then Cam had a flat. Akuna East 10:24, McCarrs half 8:15, both a touch quicker than last week, but HR shows a bit more effort - 160+. Actually saw the KOM sprint between Pete and Dave at the top of McCarrs, which I haven't been within cooee of seeing before.

Legs tired. Got going a bit on the way back and clocked 55 kmh on the speed camera display on Bobbin Head Road (or it could have been the car behind me). One friendly altercation with a merc who pulled out in front of me who I then went past. 12:55.

Good ride today, great weather. Passed Forest way on the back of the bunch at 7:10 and Marcel was there as agreed; but he didn't get on and we never saw him again, despite waiting for 10 minutes at Terry Hills. Tried a new way home via Lane Cove Road/NP. Felt good today and held onto Cam until 200m to go on McCarrs, but he was taking it easy with Matt there. Akuna East 10:27, Mc Carrs 8:23, both about 20 seconds slower than PBs.

Loyal Henry Park, Roseville at the BigFoot Summer Series. Putting out, collecting and running around the Junior Course. Very hot; the kids got very red in the face. Both feet very sore after. I would use the word frustrating, but that doesn't really seem adequate.

Mt Kuringai - Bobbin (13:30). Bit cool and felt a bit ragged towards the end, as if I was finishing a 100km ride not 46km. Still, got a round of applause in Lane Cove NP for the speed I was going (I think).
