MTB Orienteering race (Aus Champs) 1:03:47 [4] 11.95 km (5:20 / km) +198m 4:56 / km
ahr:133 max:156

Kiwarrak State Forest, Taree. Middle Distance M50. Another poor performance: just not seeing the fastest routes - 1, 2, 3, 4 = then 5, 6, 7, 8 were straightforward but missed the way into 9 and the best routes to 10, 11, 12, 13. 14 was only a single option and I missed the fastest to 15 (through the finish) but I'll blame the map for that one. So ended up way down again.

Fitness wasn't really an issue I think but MTB skills certainly were - only 1 race in a year doesn't help retain skillz.

Chain was a little bit better behaved today but still slipping and a couple of times that was crucial. Also stopped me changing gear because I wasn't confident it wouldn't slip as a result.

MTB Orienteering race (Aus Champs) 1:18:35 intensity: (1:00:00 @4) + (18:35 @5) 22.47 km (3:30 / km) +231m 3:20 / km
ahr:143 max:163

Cairncross State Forest, near Port Macquarie. Long Distance, M50. 10th. Pretty poor effort compounded by losing 7 minutes on no. 7 when I couldn't get on to a single track looking for a couple of different entry points. That was a bad route choice anyway, so compounded the error.

Rob Garden, the easy winner, passed me on a rough track; I was doing about 25kmh, but he was doing at least 35 - very impressive. Well, he was on a 29er.

Chain started slipping immediately and was bad throughout - this is the new chain and the new cluster. Thought I had broken it again at one steep pinch.

Ride to Work day. Didn't stop at the Naremburn one, because that was too close. On to North Sydney - a few more bikes there but nothing on what Perth gets. Too long a line for coffee, but did get a bell. Lets see if that one fits; none that I've ever got have.

MTB (Commute) 40:00 [3] 16.2 km (2:28 / km) +220m 2:19 / km

Back from the bike shop with another new chain and cluster. Is that a record by the way - breaking a new chain (Shimano HG93 9 speed) after 7km? Dodgy chain or dodgy bike shop set up?

Walk 1:00:00 [3] 5.5 km (10:55 / km) +60m 10:21 / km

Walking back to car from where the chain broke. Carrying 16 litres of water, so kept the intensity up.
11 AM

MTB 1:11:00 [3] 10.5 km (6:46 / km) +284m 5:57 / km

Snows Hills, collecting controls. snow had melted by the time we got there and even the 100mm of rain had left little trace except on the access track.

Chain broke again, after slipping the whole way. On the same road, just going up the last steep pinch.
12 PM

Teering 28:00 [3] 3.0 km (9:20 / km) +75m 8:18 / km

Snows Hills collecting controls.

MTB (Commute) 40:00 [3] 16.22 km (2:28 / km) +182m 2:20 / km

Back from the bike shop with new chain. Also got tubeless tyres fixed and suspension pumped up from 50psi to 100 psi. Chain slipping a bit like before, grrrr.

MTB 5:00 [3] 1.0 km (5:00 / km)

On way to putting out controls, but chain broke. Walked from there.

Teering 2:00:00 [3] 9.0 km (13:20 / km)
shoes: Helly Hansen Trail Cutter

Snows Hills. Putting out controls. Beautiful forest, a real pleasure to be out in. Pity it is so difficult to get to (4WD needed).

Cycling 2:09:00 [3] 57.03 km (2:16 / km) +880m 2:06 / km

Akuna Bay. No groups until Terry Hills, then got in a slow group who were going to West Head where there was a huge crowd. Got in a Shire group on the way back from St Ives which was good.

Core Stability (Pilates) 45:00 [1]
(injured)

Saw physio - reasonably reassuring. Ice and eccentrics should fix the left achilles.
