Tuesday Dec 31, 1985 #

12 PM

Running 25:00 [3] 4.8 km (5:12 / km)

Clonkeen, getting very wet. Did a couple of fast strides, legs OK, bit W.

Year review: Track was overall disappointing. Looked to be heading the right direction with 5th in 1:54.15 at the National Trials in early June, but that was the seasons best. Found some form and nearly qualified at the Nationals, 3rd in my heat with 1:55.21. Other majors were bad - 3rd in the Eastern Region, 4th at the Inter Varsities, 5th at GOAL sports day (1:55.4), last at the Dundrum Sports and worst was Dublin - 9th and last in the final. A minor consolation was 1st at the Colours Match v UCD. Other distances - notable 59.5 for 400m hurdles, 23.7 for 200m, 51.1 for 4th in the Dublin Senior 400m (51.0 earlier), 2 wins at the GOAL mile within 15 minutes (4:44 and 4:55) and my first cross country medal - 3rd team at the Intervarsity.
Orienteering - the dead heat win at the Irish Champs was a stand out. Had wins at Glencree and Brockagh in the lead up, but generally pretty poor. Have to mention the Relay win at the Connacht Champs as well.
and lastly won a hill race at the Scalp.
