Orienteering race 1:39:24 [3]
Was a successful day for me, possibly my best nav at a National level event in particular given how tough it was. I remember at control 2 thinking wow that was easy, I'd picked up everything I needed too and hit both controls spot on. First mistake at 3 stopping on the edge of the circle before heading further up the hill side and into the control - no more than a minute lost. Im showing time losses at control 4 and 5 but most of that is probably having a couple of pause moments to clarify what I was seeing before I went further. Inside the circle I hit both these controls fine. Control 5 lost time was how I circled around the big rock about half way to the control.
Control 6 executed as planned maybe could have been a little more confident as I approached the circle, was a little greener than I expected. Control7 got out to the fence and went for a jog via the start triangle but worked out really well and came in of the fence with complete confidence into the control. Losta minute on 8 bounced from one spur line to the other but corrected fairly quickly.
Nine was straight forward - massive feature just had to keep my direction. Control 10 i thought was dangerous so I walked given the lack of anything around it. 11 - goat track into the gully. control 12 had a significant fall during the leg but contoured nicely into the control once i came off the track.
14 - hit this control fine. But it's interesting to see the colour difference in grey bare rock. I was shocked when I saw the control descrption I thought I was heading to light green vegetation!
15 getting distracted by others when i knew i shouldn't be going to the left. Went to another control as soon as i saw the number I did my thing and hit my control.
