Orienteering race 1:06:00 [5]
Great start, clean into 1, went a little high towards 2 but stopped turned my head left and saw the control. Control 3 stopped when i hit the creek, then straight in, 4 no issues, 5 stopped at the creek junction, lined up my direction then up the hill, 6 hit clean. At this point I was doing extremely well.
On the way to seven my calves were burning, twisted my ankle, but overall executed the leg, was slowing the pace down hit 8 nicely, same with 9, coming from the N side helped.
Nice and slow to ten across the open paddock, lost ten seconds inside the control circle. 11 a little to the right but spotted the control. Control 12 hugging the creek line to much, corrected probably 30 sec mistake, control 13 no issues.
In summary 1 - 6 technically fine, probably losing time over the open runnable legs (6-7,7-8, 9-10, 11-12).
Now control 14...... had an absolute brain fade, such a stupid mistake. Mistake caused by distraction, not executing (or keeping to the plan), maybe also over confidence and not looking at the map enough. Stopped at the control to regather my thoughts, Ricky came through and gave him about a minute so i could finish the run by myself.
Control 15 dropped down to creek quickly, clean through 16, 17, 18, 19
Maybe climbed more than i needed too for control 20 but no issues.
Control 21 propped up at the control just short of mine, quickly worked it out then straight in. Fairly good effort up the hill to the finish.
