Running - Trail warm up/down 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: NB MT110 2012b

Warm up totals for the weekend
9 AM

Orienteering race 16:36 intensity: (16 @1) + (3 @2) + (16 @3) + (7:01 @4) + (9:00 @5) 3.36 km (4:56 / km) +74m 4:27 / km
ahr:164 max:175 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 2012

Session #8: Chase Setup at QE Park
Not so great on the early or late easier sections of the course, was already sounding like a pack-a-day smoker on the way to #2. The middle butterfly section felt quick and flowy however - picking smart routes to minimise climb and what-not.
12 PM

Orienteering race 17:00 intensity: (30 @3) + (5:04 @4) + (11:26 @5) 3.23 km (5:16 / km) +53m 4:52 / km
ahr:158 max:179 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 2012

Session #9: Chase at QE Park.
Mostly awesome, but was sabotaged into a world of mediocrity at the end.
Started with 4 people bunched within 20 seconds. Did my own thing, dodged all the olive green and was first to punch #1. Ran off the map slightly to #3, but everyone followed so no big deal.
Slight error at #8 going down the wrong path, but corrected quickly and was back in touch with the pack by #10. Lost the pack due to the climbing that was needed to #13, but was kinda happy as I wouldn't need to race through the final two easy control.
As I head (directly according to the GPS) to the second last control, one of the Three Stooges who were chirping at the butterfly pivot yells at me to check my map. So, since there's no one visibly behind me, I make a bit of a show of it, slowly unfold my map and check the description in there. Should be #68. Hang on, this is #54. But, it's the right one. Well, there's no one round, so I'll check the other nearby controls on trees. Up the hill.. nope not that one. Down the hill. Nope, not that one. Turn around and some junior is punching the at the tree I was originally at, while being cheered on by the Stooges.
Head back to the original tree. Check map again. Should be #54. It is #54.
What?
Anyway, finish the course and finally work out what was going on. The control description sheet I checked the first time was from the Setup race, I just hadn't thrown it out.... :/ Total time wasted: 1:30
So lessons learnt:
1) Don't use your map case as storage
2) Ignore hecklers
3) Don't check control codes
1 PM

Orienteering 15:49 intensity: (5 @1) + (9 @2) + (4:23 @3) + (11:12 @4) 2.94 km (5:22 / km) +30m 5:07 / km
ahr:152 max:163 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 2012

Session #10: Control Picking at BC Childrens Hospital.
Finished off with a cruise. Bit of a conga line to #1, but AdventureGirl! got the pack in front lost on it, so I snuck in and got ahead of them.
Map a bit hard to read with the printing, but only got caught on one of them. Otherwise, good bit of picking.

Orienteering race 14:44 intensity: (7 @1) + (6 @2) + (10 @3) + (3:31 @4) + (10:50 @5) 2.98 km (4:57 / km) +32m 4:42 / km
ahr:171 max:183 shoes: NB MT110 2012b

Session #3: Race at Lonsdale Quay.
This was pretty sweet, more multilevel fun but not quite as complex as the day before. Had more mistakes, #2 on the Stairway to Nowhere followed by a bad route, slightly longer route to #11 and overrunning #12.
Was surprised to be closer to the leaders than expected, had the classic jetlagged wake up at 3am and don't go back to sleep night and I also picked up a mini plague on the flight - not the greatest combination to race on.
10 AM

Orienteering 24:34 intensity: (1 @1) + (22 @2) + (6:36 @3) + (16:46 @4) + (49 @5) 3.8 km (6:28 / km) +84m 5:50 / km
ahr:152 max:171 shoes: NB MT110 2012b

Session #4: Pairs exercise at Capilano University.
Ran with Nev and really enjoy this type of exercise - 2 people with different parts of the whole course on each of their maps.
Didn't really have a lot of trouble with this, so on the last section put the map in the back pocket to try some relocation. Cool, varied area.
12 PM

Orienteering race 18:38 intensity: (11 @1) + (7 @2) + (11 @3) + (4:54 @4) + (13:15 @5) 2.59 km (7:11 / km) +96m 6:04 / km
ahr:169 max:179 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 2012

Session #5: Race at Greenwood Park
Tough race - lots of climbing and rough woods. I thought I'd only made one significant mistake, 50 seconds on #10, but my time was terrible! Looking at the splits I lost about 50 seconds again with a bad route on #12 and a couple of 10-15 seconders of scrappi-ness and general lack of intensity.
1 PM

Orienteering 22:10 intensity: (10 @1) + (8:36 @2) + (1:52 @3) + (3:38 @4) + (7:54 @5) 3.08 km (7:13 / km) +32m 6:51 / km
ahr:147 max:179 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 2012

Session #6: O-tervals at Grand Boulevard
Teamed up with Hammer and ShadowCaster. Bounced between course A and B for each interval, but more importantly, beat Hammer in all of them.
Really fun exercise - after the general plodding and princess-ness of the previous race it was fun to blast down the grassy road divider, assisted by the slight downhill gradient (until the 4th interval, big pace drop when we turned around and headed uphill).
Don't really remember having any troubles, lots of good flowing sections. Although it was an easier map, I think I'm better at focussing when the pace is faster, something to do with the physical and mental intensity going hand in hand.
3 PM

Orienteering race 17:33 intensity: (5 @1) + (5 @2) + (7 @3) + (5:08 @4) + (12:08 @5) 2.53 km (6:57 / km) +63m 6:10 / km
ahr:169 max:181 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 2012

Session #7: Farsta Race at William Griffin Park
Fail. MP on the first control of the second loop. Victim of being too smart for my own good.
First loop went well, I was doing my own thing but still managed to stay in touch with Will for the early controls (more to do with being successful with the vegetation bingo than any skill of mine - but still allowed some sledging). As I hit the final controls of the first loop I tried to be clever and start planning the second loop before finishing the first. Result was that I forgot what the codes were, had to turn the map over and check again and get totally confused. Result was that I started navigating to the first control of loop 1 again. MP then happens like this
1) Think to self 'odd that course setter put it on another mound so close to the other first loop control
2) Upon arriving at the mound, realise what happened and turn map over
3) Just start running in the general direct of #1
4) End up at #1 of loop 3. Kinda similar feature
5) Punch. Don't check code.
6) Over run #2 by a lot (as I'm much further north than I actually was), but don't think anything of it
7) Complete loop, realise as I punch #1 on loop 3 what happened.
Had to happen eventually!
4 PM

Orienteering 5:04 intensity: (25 @1) + (39 @2) + (1:27 @3) + (2:33 @4) 0.67 km (7:34 / km) +6m 7:14 / km
ahr:141 max:164 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 2012

Bonus Session at Memorial Park
Micr-O. All went well, 'cept for the confusion at #2 with all the new landscaping.

Session #1: Sprint Camp
Just a warm up on the Olympic Village map. Low intensity, no issues with any controls and decent flow.
Saw the infamous shed - shook my fist at is as I ran past.

Orienteering race 17:35 intensity: (8 @1) + (9 @2) + (13 @3) + (4:03 @4) + (13:02 @5) 3.74 km (4:42 / km) +1m 4:41 / km
ahr:170 max:181 shoes: Inov8 F-Lite 230 2012

Session #2 of Sprint Camp
Race on Downtown Vancouver
Fun stuff, reminiscent of the Barbican in London. Ran into trouble at #7 where I mentally 'jumped' from one parallel underpass to the other - ended up on a busy road and had to backtrack, winsplits says I lost 1:40.
Didn't feel amazingly fast, I won't lie - flying in from Sydney on the day the camp started wasn't the wisest choice. :)

Running - Street 39:53 intensity: (55 @1) + (4:07 @2) + (21:57 @3) + (12:54 @4) 7.01 km (5:41 / km) +81m 5:23 / km
ahr:141 max:160 shoes: Inov8 F-Lite 230 2012

Token Sydney tourist run. Warm evening - nice to turn the legs over. Felt a million bucks compared to yesterday.

Running - Trail 45:42 intensity: (15 @1) + (1:29 @2) + (18:07 @3) + (25:51 @4) 6.43 km (7:06 / km) +332m 5:39 / km
ahr:143 max:162 shoes: NB MT110 2012b

Waterworks. Hot one, took me 20 mins to get to Huon Rd (nornally takes much less than that) and wasn't feeling awesome, so cut it short and went back around the quarry instead of Fern Tree.
Wise move, fell apart 10 mins later and was a slow shuffle home. Low profile shoes also not great on the rocky fire trails.
Demolished a vanilla coke, strawberry milk and ginger beer afterwards.
