Long course at Super Dévoluy. Actual distance ran 6.1 k, 290 m. Wonderful terrain, great map. Unfortunately had big errors on 1,2 and 6, but still had a great time.

Middle distance course at Baie de Chanteloube near Chorges. Did F course for women over 60 and men over 70. I had a lot of difficulty, as I just couldn't get into the map, mainly because I could not read it. There was just too much contour detail for me to read at 1:10000. I made a 4 minute error on 1, a 5 minute error on 5, an 11 minute error on 8 and I had difficulty finding the GO control. Not a good day.

Middle distance course at Ancelle. Ran the F course for women over 60 and men over 70. Complex terrain on hillside of ski resort. First two-thirds of course in light green. Ended up doing pretty well, 3rd out of 20. No major errors. Several times I thought my pace count had run out, but the control was slightly further.

Sprint in Gap. Actual distance ran 4.4 km. Typical old town sprint with lots of narrow curvy streets and walls. Not quite as complicated as other old towns, but still a lot of fun. Generally did OK. Came in 5th of 9, but only 1:42 behind the winner, or about 6% longer. Probably biggest error was not seeing the subterranean tunnel between 16 and 17. Even back at the hotel with good light and a magnifying glass, it is hard to see the parallel dotted lines indicating the tunnel, particularly since there are 3 or 4 other parallel lines all clustered together in that region. Probably a lot of people didn't see it either. However, when punching at 17, I saw people coming through, so figured it must be a passage. I used the tunnel going from 18 to 19, although the better choice was probably to swing around to the south and west and then head back north once out of the courtyard.

I was getting tired at the end. My right knee ached this morning, so I imagine it will be worse tomorrow. However, I have 48 hours of rest, since my start on Thursday isn't until 5:20 pm.

H Course Prologue French Champs at Veynes. Relatively simple course, more like a yellowish orange. Few small errors. Went short distance down wrong trail at 6 trail intersection going to 1. Missed small trail and took long way around on bigger trail to 2. Couldn't see bag when I was at 3. Almost decided to look at a different area when I went a little further and saw it deep in bushes. Lots of fun. Ended up in the middle of the pack, 7th out of 14. Really liked the 1:5000 map. It was so much easier to read with these old eyes.
