Orienteering race 59:12 [5] *** 4.7 km (12:36 / km) +110m 11:17 / km

day 2 of Northwest Frenzy at Cle Elum. another pretty good run. Had 2 3minute errors. Was too low and overan both 4 and 6. 2nd fastest time on brown, 4:30 behind Alex Kerr. Came in first both days in M65, but not much competition. I'm sure things will change at the US Champs next weekend.

Orienteering race 1:03:15 [5] *** 5.3 km (11:56 / km) +150m 10:27 / km
ahr:134 max:153 spiked:9/9c

Day 1 at Cle Elum. Pretty good run on brown course. No major errors. A few hesitations and bobbles, and a couple of times was thinking of bailing out, but went another 10-20 meters and saw the control. Not a bad course. Some of the control points were a little vague, side of a long hill, a miniscule dot knoll, a couple of edge of thickets. All 4 could really be considered someplace in the forest, as the features were not at all distinct. The map shows its age, as the vegetation and trails could not be relied on. Fortunately, the contours are quite good, and that is all I really paid attention to. Was first in brown when I left, about 9 minures ahead of Fred Veler who was in 2nd place on brown.

This was a junior run meet, and for not having put on an A meet before, went pretty well, although if judged by standard criteria, a little shaky. It seems like a lot of stuff was done at the last minute and it shows. The starts had to be delayed for an hour, and a few other things, but I think the juniors deserve a lot of praise for what they have accomplished.

Cle Elum sprint at CE High School. Eric Bone set the course. Nice sprint. No major errors. 30 sec error to #12, overran it by 20 meters or so. Actual distance ran 3.1 km, so pretty straight line to the controls.

Running (Treadmill) 34:00 [4] 3.4 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warmed up for about 8 minutes, then ran 0.5 mile at 7.5 min / mile pace. Then did two more intervals of 8, 7.5, 8 min/mi for 1 min each, and cooled down. Not too bad. Had to eliminate grade on treadmill because even the 1% hill caused pain in my anterior medial right knee. May have to see someone about this.
