The big day. Got up at 5:45 and headed out to Tilden at 7:25. I had hung the signs and streamered the walks to the start and finish. By the time I unloaded all the stuff from the car, Jim Fish arrived and we set up the EP tent and computers. Then the starts and finish. We were all set to go by 9:00, and the first finisher, a speedy kid was just coming in as we were leaving the finish.

It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and temps in the low 60's. Perfect for running. As a consequence of the nice weather and close in park, there was a huge turnout. We had 200 entries, double the number from last year, with probably 300 participants. The only bad part of the event was that we ran out of long orange, yellow, orange and brown maps. Some people had to change courses or wait until a map could be recycled. I had loaded the OCAD and Condes files so I could print extra maps, but forgot to check whether it worked or not at home, and unfortunately the map was made with a later version of Condes than was on the club computer, so plan B didn't work. REgistration and EP was taxed, but the lines were never too long, and most people waited patiently. Fortunately, we had 2 computers networked so we could double team the entry and download system.

The courses were well received. George and I had concerns about the long legs through some very unhospitable terrain, making long round about trail runs probably the best option. However, there were no complaints, and a lot of kudos, so they went as well as could be expected.

We had minimal staff, with the advanced start and finish being unmanned. One person manned the beginner starts in 2 shifts. The double computer helped things out, so even with 200 entries, we did the event with 3 registration people, 3 starters, and 5 EP people over the 6 hour time spread. Not bad.
