Middle model - first team out there, which was nice except that we also beat the control hangers there too. Quite liked the terrain though.

Ran a course from a recent event on a map near Ligatne. Felt much better in the legs this time, partly aided by cooler weather and more runnable terrain. Made a couple of mistakes but overall it was a positive experience.

Non orienteering day. Tobogganing to start the day then 8x3min tempo on a nice forest trail along the Gauja River. Legs felt pretty rough and I sweated buckets but in hindsight I was moving ok and sustained it no problem.

Did some o intervals with Doyley and Vanessa on Training Map Number 4. Good to attempt to do something at a slightly higher tempo. Nav didn’t quite keep up in the first half, and then my legs dropped off in the second half. Rooted by the end. So not particularly successful if I’m honest but I guess all good familiarisation. Enjoying another arvo of generally lounging.

Another gentle technique session, this time on Training Map Number 5. This was a bit tougher than yesterday’s map with some quite steep slopes and more fallen trees, so trying to go easy meant I got pushed around a fair bit. Still, there were a few really nice bits and the orienteering was interesting. Another warm day so enjoyed lounging about for the rest of it.

First go at orienteering over here on Training Map Number 8. First couple of controls were tough going and I was beginning to wonder what I’d let myself in for again. But after that I got a bit more into it and memories of running in softer green vegetationy terrain with actual water features started to return. Most of the green on this map was quite tame too - knee high ferns, brambles that were actually raspberries without any thorns and no nettles. Nice and warm day so was able to cleanse myself through sweat nicely too.

Warm up jog with Doyley around a walking track overlooking some cliffs. Nice trail and swing bridge across a nice babbling brook - the cliffs didn’t really live up to the surroundings to be honest.

Made it to Latvia reasonably smoothly. Headed out for a jog from the team flat around the local woods. Miles and miles of beautiful open flat sandy pine forests so ended up running off track for a lot of it. Unsurprisingly felt pretty ordinary but it was good to stretch the legs. It’s pretty warm and humid out here, which is going to be nice for being lazy and eating ice creams the next few days.
