Orienteering race (Oz Middle) 34:00 [5] 6.0 km (5:40 / km) +200m 4:51 / km

At Hill End, came 4th (2nd Aussie). Fun course round some tricky gold mining stuff. Couple of dubious checkpoints to find and some interesting mapping but generally a great course. My run was a race of two halves - clean but tired round the first half, then a silly miss at #15 and was caught by Matt Ogden so a fast but very scrappy head-to-head to the finish. Excitement slightly soured by catching Cameron Tier and watching him cripple himself falling off a big cliff. Hope he's ok.

So ends my undefeated run (by other Aussies) in this race, but the 1.5mins to Simon would have been a tall order today. Pretty pleased really given where I'm at right now. Also can't help wondering what the odds would have been at the British Schools Champs at Cragside in 1995 when I was beaten by Chris Hodkinson on M14 that his then toddler brother would end up schooling me at the Oz Champs 22 years later. Kind of reassuringly nostalgically nice though.

Weird having time to do both a decent warm-up and a decent warm-down. The latter included locating Cameron who wasn't in a great way.

Orienteering race (Oz Sprint) 15:47 [5] 4.0 km (3:57 / km) +30m 3:48 / km

At Charles Sturt Uni, Bathurst, came 6th/5th/7th/3rd/4th depending who's counting. Good race for me really, better than I was expecting. Ran around a lot of buildings and got tired. Interestingly was tied with Simon and Tomas over a few controls near the end, but took the wrong side of a building to the last control.

Lunch run around Black Mt peninsula. Those I should try to wake legs up with some 10x1min efforts. Felt bad and was slow but better today than tomorrow.
