Running (ACT Autumn Rogaine) 5:52:00 [3] 42.7 km (8:15 / km)

At Tarlo National Park with Rob. We ummed and ahhed about doing the 12hr over the last few weeks but in the end decided that, with Rob having TNF in a few weeks and us both the NOLs, coupled with the fact that we would probably kill each other, it was probably best to 'just' do the 6hr. It rained quite a bit during the contacting stage but fortunately just stopped before the actual race started. Still pretty cold though during most of the race and a bit of drizzle too. Clearing the course was nigh on impossible so we didn't even try, quickly missing a few out early on. The bush was beautiful - 5mpk stuff some of it (if you were in a short orienteering race of course). Only it started to get steeper and a bit stonier as the course went on. After a couple of hours we hit the top of a big hill with great views but started to realise we were falling behind schedule and it was going to be tight to get back in time (without any real options for cutting off). So we just stuck at it. I went through a rough patch 2.30-3.30hrs. Rob claims he went through a rough patch just after (although I didn't notice). A couple of small navigational errors crept in. The last hour wasn't much fun as the pressure was on to get back in time and we had a few brutal climbs to deal with. Fortunately our limbs and energy held together and we had 35mins to do the last 4km along a big track, which was plenty of time and we could just 'cruise' home. Tucker afterwards didn't disappoint as always. Pretty pleased with how I held up - definitely better than last time in October. Probably kept hydrated better this time. Pretty sore after though and cramping up quite a lot as I got changed - don't envy Rob having to run 100km in 4 weeks time! Although he's clearly in very good shape. Much fun - maybe 12hrs next time... Maybe. Probably not.
