Orienteering race (Long Mynd Long-O) 1:47:00 [4] 18.0 km (5:57 / km) +860m 4:48 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-talon 212

A great long-o put on by Wreken Orienteers. I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of map and course quality and whether it would be worth the 2+ hr drive, but I thought at least the views and terrain would probably be quite nice. It was all top notch though - a really good proper orienteering map and some fiendish route choices. Took the straight options in general which meant some very steep climbs and decents but made me feel hard. Felt great for the first 80mins or so, but slowed quite a bit towards the end - maybe some food and drink would've been a good idea. A really nice day with plenty of good views. We also had a nice drive home, although we timed it a bit badly as a tractor show had just ended near Ludlow which meant a lot of tractors going home on single-carriage way roads.

(rest day)

Although did play tennis for a couple of hours with Gracie. Won comfortably 6-4, 6-2, 4-6. I hit my first practice shot into a compost heap and retrieving the ball meant I was really smelly for the whole game.

Running 1:03:00 [3] 13.0 km (4:51 / km)

Badock Wood, Henleaze, Downs, Sneyd Pk, Dingle, home. Felt a bit achey at first (something to do with 19miles yesterday probably) but not too bad by the end.

Running 2:14:00 [3] 31.0 km (4:19 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

Today Tim and I ran to Bath. Wasn't sure how much of a good idea this would be, but I felt surprisingly ok afterwards. We went down into town then all the way along the old railway cycle path. Enjoyed the first 14miles or so and time flew by, but the last 5miles dragged a bit and I was getting pretty tired and sore by the end. A cheeky can of coke from a Chinese in Bath helped no end. Kept up a decent tempo the whole way. Laura then kindly gave us a lift home.

Running 1:01:00 [3] 14.0 km (4:21 / km)

Blaise, KW hill, Shitehampton GC, Sea Milfs, Canford Park. About as contrived as I'm prepared to go although nowhere near as good as some of the examples posted yesterday - I couldn't believe this run was only 61mins, it felt much longer. But I did go through some nice bits. Felt good runningwise though.

Running 1:09:00 [3] 16.0 km (4:19 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

Fairly roady run along KW hill, Shitehampton, Avonmouth (village), A4, Cabot Park, Hallen, home. Legs a bit achey but not too sore and I felt fairly good in the main. Smelly and industrial run, fairly boring but I find big loops mentally easier than contrived wiggles.

Note
(rest day)

Drinks after work, plus it was raining, plus I did a half marathon yesterday.
