Orienteering race (Wombwell Local) 38:15 [5]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

Brown course at Wombwell. Nice and fast, but quite a simple course. Felt good at first and was going quite fast but soon got tired and felt quite heavy. Really dug in to try and keep the pace up. Defo slowed up a bit, but a good hard workout nonetheless. Got beat by Gracie on number 5.

Running 16:30 [5]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Two efforts in Roundhay Park with Gracie chasing me. A lap of the big lake first (9.19), then a gradual uphill one from the dam to the ring-road (7.06). Felt a bit heavy and my toasties were still bouncing around my tummy.

Wiggling round the park before, between and after the efforts. Lots of people, dogs and flowers out.

IW. Cracking morning so went out through the woods, castle and lake in Roundhay Park. Training's about a billion times more enjoyable when it's sunny and light. Had to tear myself away and down Roundhay Road through Harehills - not quite so nice.

Running 33:00 [3]

HFW. Via Roundhay Park again cos it was light and sunny and nice.

10x 3min reps (1 min cruising between) from end of Street Lane, over Tunnel How Hill, up through Adel Woods, out to Eccup reservoir and back to Moortown. Good loop that, most enjoyable. Felt alright to boot.

The first and last bits of the run.

Note
(rest day)

Journey home again. Skin peeling off my face. I had 2 extra cheeseburgers with my large Big Mac meal in Oldham I was that hungry.

Got the glass-bottomed boat out to Lobos Island (saw a few fishies) and did a loop of the island on the walking track. Also went up the hill which gave us great views of Fuerte and Lanzarote. Then went for a dip in a lagoon. Cracking little nature reserve, really quiet, no tourists and picture postcard views.

Got the bus from Corralejo to Lajares and ran back to our hotel via a few dormant volcanoes. Fuerteventura means strong wind in Spanish, and I can see why! Terrain was pretty cool - just miles and miles of volcanic rubble with the odd old volcano sticking up out of it. Saw a little chipmunk thing too and some goats.

While Gracie was having an afternoon snooze I sneaked out for a bonus run on a dirt track alongside the sea. It was quite choppy, but the few drops of rain felt really nice on my all-over sunburn. Crept off the beaten track over some desert and up to a couple more old volcanoes. Very stony/rocky indeed and quite steep slopes so was quite slow going.
