Running 47:00 [2]
shoes: asics traily things

Trail run in Kosciuszko National Park with Gracie. Did the Waterfall Trail and Sawpit Creek Trail. Quite thick bush and felt sure I was gonna see a snake, but never did. Great little run though.

Badja. I think they had a World Cup race here. Pretty tricky, vagueish contours and plenty of rock, and quite thick in places so hard to see far and run quick. Made for great orienteering. Hung a short loop for Gracie, then ran a loop she'd hung (made one huge mistake). Then ran a course with a few longer legs which I did pretty well. Slightly off direction once or twice, but if I had a fast-setting compass I'd be happier. Corrected quickly though. I must've been concentrating hard cos I didn't see any wombats or wild pigs. But I nearly ran a wombat over on the way home, so that made up for it.

Kosciuszko National Park. Absolutely fantastic run. One of those that you'll just remember forever like when I went up Helvellyn with Sprotty on 1st Jan 2006. Gorgeous day. Got the chairlift up from Thredbo then ran with Gracie to the top of Mt Kosciuszko (highest in Australia). It must be the only mountain in the world that you're actually not allowed to run up cos they've put some gangway down that might break. Dumbasses. But we did anyway. Then we carried on for a bit and Gracie turned back while I carried on round a big loop. Running in snow above 2000m. They've even got fells in Australia! It was just like the Lake District or Scotland. Cut across a boggy bit and felt right at home. Then a mental descent under the chairlift cos it had closed by then.

Planned myself a course on Black Mt which I just cruised round quite nicely. Managed to find most of the ant hills I was looking for. I've been borrowing Gracie's old (and I mean old) thumb compass since I've been here. I've always used a baseplate in the past. Thumb compass seems quite nice. I always thought, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it,' so never considered changing. But a change is as good as a holiday. Hmmmm.

Loosener with Gracie along bike paths on the edge of Lake BG. My legs weren't very happy to do this extra session.

With Shep, Jules and Martin. A longish course in Sparrow with some control pick sections which we did at 20sec intervals and some long legs which we took turns to lead. Big, entirely white, pine forest with nothing on the floor. Plenty of small (like really small) detail going on. Mmmmm sexy orienteering. Got whipped in the eye a few times but felt good and had lots of fun.

5x1km (2mins recovery) at AIS track with Shep and Martin the Norwegian. This is the earliest interval session I've ever run (8am) but I actually felt ok. Some dude in a wheelchair kept whizzing past us. 3.06, 3.05, 3.05, 3.03, 3.02.

Round Mt Painter, the Pinnacle and through Hawker. I wore a thermal today, but it wasn't that cold so I got quite hot.
