Orienteering race (NOL long race) 1:47:00 [5] 17.0 km (6:18 / km)

At Sandhills. 6th place today - being shattered was never going to strangely play into my hands today. Great course by lazydave in some of Canberra's finest terrain. First leg in particular was a corker - lots of route choices that were all difficult to execute. Pretty pleased with the first hour or so - not going quickly but hitting stuff generally fine and keeping a steady pace. 2nd at the radio 11km in. A bit hesitant on the first butterfly, but got to #19 (about 7mins to go) in 4th place, within 30secs of 2nd. Then proceeded to lose 6.5mins on #20! Biggest mistake in a long long time. Yeah it was a pretty vague dot knoll in bracken and I was stood right by it - but I'd been chancing it all weekend and didn't have a clear attackpoint, so I was bound to get caught out at some point. All my fault - annoyed to be conquered by such a tough course right at the very end. In a big boo at the finish. Simon had a great run and showed how much form I've lost over the last year or so. Still, glad to be mixing it with the next pack.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)

Forced to warm-up today as the start was 1km away. Couldn't be forced to warm down though.

Orienteering race (NOL middle) 31:40 [5] 7.0 km (4:31 / km)

At Wild Deer Sands. Managed to shade the win - very happy with that as came into the race pretty fatigued and under-trained. As it was, that (and no selections riding on it) lead to me throwing caution to the wind and running as fast as I physically could (never mind the nav). By #3 I had a 35sec lead, but I was also rooted! Small miss at #4 and biggish miss (punched wrong control first) at #6 meant it was all wasted and I was back in 2nd at the radio. Still, some momentum and a pretty clean 2nd half kept me up there while others made misses. Must've been the birthday good luck. Interesting experience.

Orienteering (Campbell Park) 31:00 [4] 6.0 km (5:10 / km)

Always enjoy orienteering on Campbell Park, and it was a gorgeous sunny winter day too. Wasn't really concentrating well though and did a stupid mistake at #5.

Orienteering race (State League - Cooleman) 56:00 [4] 9.0 km (6:13 / km)

Tough hilly course on Cooleman Ridge. Nice map for inner Canberra and a good course. Thought a few of the controls were quite obvious though. Good clean run technically but was really slow and blobby.
