5 PM

Running 55:00 [3] 12.0 km (4:35 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-talon 212

Blaise (dark).

Thursday Dec 30, 2010 #

3 PM

Running 1:51:00 [3] 25.0 km (4:26 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus

Long road run out past Parkway to Bradley Stoke and back via Over and Easter Compton. Felt ok til 80mins then got a bit achey. Had Gracie's i-shuffle thing for company again - quite liked the Wolfmother song so had that a couple of times.

Wednesday Dec 29, 2010 #

7 AM

Running 38:00 [3] 8.0 km (4:45 / km)

Bright and early run in Blaise - dark, misty and muddy.
6 PM

Running 32:00 [3] 8.0 km (4:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus

Not feeling the love tonight - set off on a decent paced 1hr road run in my new trainers but got a bit dizzy after 20mins so cut it short. Hadn't been overly sensible with eating/sleeping over the last 2 days: a good reminder.

Tuesday Dec 28, 2010 #

10 AM

Running intervals 1:05:00 [4] 14.0 km (4:39 / km)

Run in the Cotswolds from Cam near Dursley and along the Cotswold Way, with a slight detour to take in a trig on Bown Hill (surely a miss-type of Brown Hill by the OS). Got to the bottom of Woodchester Park and realised my intended run would be about 2.15hrs, so had to cut back on quite a roady route via Cockadilly (seriously). At least I got a bit of speed up. Not a nice day - grey, drizzly and misty. Although it was much milder than recently, it felt just as cold cos of the dampness. I did 13x5mins (2mins steady jogging recovery) on this run at a sub-thresholdy type pace.

Running 38:00 [2] 7.0 km (5:26 / km)

First bit, last bit and recoveries.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3] 13.0 km (5:46 / km)
shoes: Jalas X20

Ran the Brocton and Milford course from November 2008 in 65mins quite steady (took 62mins in the race). It was a bit drizzly and the snow had gone quite slippery. Saw lots of deer which was nice though. Map still gash.

Orienteering 1:56:00 [3] 20.0 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Jalas X20

Ran the British Champs course again starting from Seven Springs. The course bit took me 1.48 this time with all the snow, darkness and not racing. Very enjoyable - great being back on the Chase.

Saturday Dec 25, 2010 #

9 AM

Running 36:00 [2] 6.5 km (5:32 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

Christmas morning run on Blaise with Gracie - cracking day, sunny and snowy. Then drove up to Stafford for the rest of the day.

Friday Dec 24, 2010 #

3 PM

Running 1:09:00 [3] 14.5 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

HFW in the light! Went via AC for a laugh.

Thursday Dec 23, 2010 #

3 PM

Running 1:58:00 [3] 24.0 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-talon 212

Long run out through Blaise, KW hill, M5 bridge, Failand Church, Abbots Pool, AC, Suspension Bridge, Downs, Stoke Bishop. A bit cold and icy but knicked Gracie's ipod shuffle which made it a bit more enjoyable. That brings up 3000miles for the year (give or take, depending how accurate my distance guestimates are).

Wednesday Dec 22, 2010 #

7 AM

Running 40:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

Another early morning cruise round snowy Blaise. Bored of it now. It's going to be a long winter.
6 PM

Running 1:02:00 [3] 14.5 km (4:17 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

Evening run round the roads of Lawrence Weston, Sea Mills, Sneyd Park and Henleaze. A little slippery in places but not too bad.

Tuesday Dec 21, 2010 #

7 AM

Running 40:00 [3] 9.0 km (4:27 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

Couldn't be bothered with an IW so got up bright and early and ran round Blaise again following some of our tracks from last night.
7 PM

Running 24:00 [4] 7.0 km (3:26 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

4x5mins (1min rec) on Blaise. Felt quite good but I expect I wasn't going particularly fast. Managed to drag Gracie out of the door!

Running 20:00 [3] 3.5 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

Warm up/down.

Monday Dec 20, 2010 #

8 AM

Running 41:00 [3] 9.0 km (4:33 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

IW - quite snowy and icy but the dobs did the trick.
7 PM

Running 1:12:00 [3] 14.0 km (5:09 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

Not the Team Monday Monday night run with Keith and Tim from home round Blaise. Nice powdery snow and not too cold.

Sunday Dec 19, 2010 #

11 AM

Running 1:40:00 [3] 20.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

In the Cotswolds from North Nibley. Set off with Gracie for a bit then powered off to Stinchcombe Hill and around about Dursley, Waterley Bottom (hehe) and back to Nibley Knoll. Very very cold at first but became more bearable later. Snow everywhere but never very deep. Nice run and an easy place to get to from here - defo going back. Felt ok runningwise, but it was a bit of a mince really.

Saturday Dec 18, 2010 #

3 PM

Running 1:33:00 [3] 20.0 km (4:39 / km)
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

Post Christmas shopping jaunt round Blaise. Very contrived and wiggly but good to stick to smallish paths and grass. The dusting of snow made it mildly more interesting than normal.

Thursday Dec 16, 2010 #

5 PM

Running 38:00 [3] 8.0 km (4:45 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

HFW - foul. Got caught in a sleet storm in the middle of the dark Downs.
6 PM

Running 43:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

Then headed out with Gracie for a cruise around Stoke Bishop and Henleaze. Fortunately it wasn't as cold as my previous run.

Wednesday Dec 15, 2010 #

2 PM

Running 1:45:00 [3] 22.0 km (4:46 / km)

Quite a long run in the end out over Spaniorum Hill to Marsh Common, Almondsbury, Easter Compton and back. Felt a bit tired but kept on plodding. Wasn't actually as cold as I thought it might be and I think I even saw the sun once. No snakes.

Tuesday Dec 14, 2010 #

8 AM

Running 30:00 [3] 7.0 km (4:17 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

IW - cold.
5 PM

Running 54:00 [3] 13.0 km (4:09 / km)

Note

Travelling.

Saturday Dec 11, 2010 #

12 PM

Running 57:00 [2] 11.0 km (5:11 / km)

Dropped Gracie at the Crackenback Resort where the wedding was to be so she could have her hair done, then squeezed in a little run from there to the Thredbo River and around a few small trails. A bit chillier up here (quite high) but really fresh alpine air and actually sunny! Beautiful part of the world this. Even the snake I saw couldn't spoil it. Craig and Jasmine were so lucky to have such a glorious day and surroundings for their wedding :o)

Friday Dec 10, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Bowling in the morning (got a pb of 166) then drove down to Jindabyne in the Snowy mountains to take up residence for the next couple of nights. Lurvely.

Thursday Dec 9, 2010 #

4 PM

Running 47:00 [3] 10.0 km (4:42 / km)

Found a short gap in the days activities to nip up Mount Majura for old times sake from the Carotel Park where we were staying. Still remembered it well and brought back a few memories. A lot wetter and greener than I remembered though! No roos neither. Then went out on Craig's bucks night.

Wednesday Dec 8, 2010 #

10 AM

Running 1:00:00 [2] 9.0 km (6:40 / km)

Morning run with Gracie up Mount Imlay near Eden. Probably the best trek of the trip as it was great path with a decent climb and a satisfying peak with good views. Then did quite a long but scenic drive to Canberra to meet up with the rest of the Elson clan.

Tuesday Dec 7, 2010 #

4 PM

Running 1:30:00 [2] 13.0 km (6:55 / km)

Staying in Eden for a couple of nights now almost at the NSW/Victorian border. Gracie was studying in the morning so I went for a spin round a few country roads listening to the end of the Ashes test (fantastic) and stopping for the odd long black and at lookouts to try and spot whales (again failing). In the afternoon we did a lovely run to the lighthouse at Green Cape in the Ben Boyd National Park. Saw 2 snakes.

Monday Dec 6, 2010 #

3 PM

Running 1:30:00 [2] 13.0 km (6:55 / km)

Continued our cruise further down the NSW coast today, stopping off for a run n the Bournda National Park near Tathra. Great little bush tracks taking in a trig, some wild jungle and nice beaches. Saw some wallabies but whales and echidnas were disappointingly elusive.

Sunday Dec 5, 2010 #

4 PM

Running 1:20:00 [2] 12.0 km (6:40 / km)

Staying near Narooma but didn't fancy the local bushwalks so headed inland to do Peak Alone which looked fairly high and had a path up it. The path turned out to be drivable so it was a bit of a road run, and there were no views (in the cloud and thick forest) from the top or a very definite summit. Still, about 100 times better than Blaise!

Saturday Dec 4, 2010 #

7 AM

Running 38:00 [3] 8.0 km (4:45 / km)

Up pretty early due to jetlag so went for a run while Gracie was sound asleep. Saw lots of spiders and roos.
4 PM

Running 1:30:00 [2] 12.0 km (7:30 / km)

Cruised in the car further south down the coast to Tilba Tilba and went for a run with Gracie up Mount Dromedary. Saw 3 (count them) snakes. A great bushwalk track through some pretty thick jungle.

Friday Dec 3, 2010 #

3 PM

Running 1:20:00 [2] 12.0 km (6:40 / km)

Drove from Sydney south along the NSW coast to Nowra. Checked in to caravan park then headed to Booderee National Park on Jervis Bay for a gentle loosener with Gracie out to St Georges Head. Not overly sunny but nice and warm and good coastal views. Saw a snake and a dolphin.

Thursday Dec 2, 2010 #

Note

Only a 13hr day due to timezone changes, and that was spent in the air, so training opportunities were somewhat limited.
