Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Out on some paths and roads from Bisham Abbey with OJ, JD, BJ and GG. I felt left out as the only person who doesn't have an acronym as my nickname.

Running 1:08:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Similar run as the morning but just with JD. Maybe ran a bit faster but still chatting most of the time. Legs a bit sore by the end.

Note

Interesting Fact 1: the course at Ogden was almost exactly the same as the course I did there in 2005 which took me 30 seconds longer. Looking at the splits, I was slightly faster this time round in general, although on 5-6 last time I took the same route as Oli did this time, except I was 30secs quicker. I think that shows that the moor has deteriorated. Anyhoo, 2005 ended up being quite a good season for me, so if I'm fitter now than I was then, that's good.

Interesting Fact 2: I just ate a kit-kat except one of the fingers was pure chocolate.

Running 1:21:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Made use of having some daylight to run in (study day), so headed out through Alwoodley, Harewood Estate, Greystone and over to Bardsey and back. Mainly on tracks but with a bit of roads. Felt good but wasn't overly pushing it. I got pretty cold towards the end. Good to get home.

Running 26:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 1024

IW - stopped a bit short to walk up the last hill with the guy who sits next to me at work

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 1024

HFW - very misty. Found a duck stood in the middle of the road causing a mini traffic jam. I think the mist had confused it and it couldn't find it's pond. I did my good deed for the day by shepherding it off the road.

Drove out to Eccup, stuck on the petzl and knocked off an hour on some muddy tracks. Found some proper old skool ring marks on the Grey Stone. Felt alright if a little jaded.

Orienteering race (Ogden Regional Event) 59:00 [5]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

A fair bit tougher than I remember it being in the past, but soldiered on. Pretty happy to be within a minute of the big man in that kind of terrain, although it would be interesting to see what time he could have ran if he'd raced. Had a good race myself, took some route choices and found all of the controls and ran hard.

To the start and from the finish.

Running 1:22:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Pretty speedy run out Shadwell, Bardsey, along some dismantled railway, Birkby Hill and back. Not a bad wee loop and I felt pretty good too. I even wore shorts and no windproof and felt faily warm.

Running 28:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 1024

IW felt quite good. It's interesting that I can do this run in 28 minutes without my heartrate going over one hundred and something, and I can run under 16mins for 5km and I can run a half-marathon in about 73 minutes and I can run 100m in less than 20 seconds, yet some of those things felt harder and required more training than others.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

Short orienteering course in Danefield. Found that the area not marked as brambles was bramblier than the area marked as brambles which wasn't that brambly interestingly enough.

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

A continuation of the orienteering as I crossed the road into the Chevin bit and ran on some paths in there. Quite nice but the whole of Leeds was out there today. Guess they don't have a Peak District to go to on a sunny Sunday.

Running 1:02:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Nice run out in the Harewood Estate (probs the best area for running close by). Felt really bad for the first 5mins, but had a wildy and suddenly felt much better. 50/50 roads and paths, but the roads were proper country roads so didn't mind that too much. Even bagged a trig point at Bowshaws Ash. Saw the usual Red Kites. Felt good on the flat, but still quite weak going up hill.

IW - tired.

Thursday Jan 15, 2009 #

Running 1:17:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Very muddy run across fields - Birkby Hill, Thorner, Duck Pond, Shadwell. Can't say I enjoyed it much: the fields were quite dull and I felt very tired (combination of low energy/heavy mud/last night's race). Lost the path and cut across some crap fields back to the path to find a farmer who'd been watching me. He seemed friendly enough though and seemed to enjoy telling me where I should have gone. Saw a Red Kite over Shadwell - I guess that was the highlight.

Orienteering race (Roundhay Streets) 46:30 [5]
shoes: New Balance 1024

45min street score event starting and finishing in some guys kitchen and visiting lots of post boxes. Thought I could get them all, but turned out that would take about 70mins so had to adjust my tactics half way round. Think the loop I did was about optimal - not much I could do about getting back a bit late. I won some cereal bars. A good hard run on the roads.

Feeling a lot better and back at work, but not much energy from not eating much of late.

Off work with food poisoning. Stabbed in the back by a sausage.

Running long 2:15:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Pen-y-ghent from Malham Tarn with Neil, Pete and Little Rob, cos that's what we always do. Not the best day for it. In fact it was horrible. Horizontal rain (way past the 45deg threshold), extremely windy and lots of mist. Still, we soldiered on. Not going great up the steepest hills, but pretty happy with how I felt the rest of the time. Put a bit of effort in on the way back up Fountains Fell which I think Neil was grateful for.

Orienteering 50:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

5x trains courses on Attermire with Neil and Gracie. I think Neil has caught me up every time I've done a train against him. I sure he doesn't count to 30. Good little hit out, a few tough bits. Not a great area for orienteering but good to get running a bit harder. Compass might have helped.

Running 50:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

From Malham Tarn to and from the orienteering with Neil and Gracie, including a bit of skating on the tarn - never seen it completely frozen before, apparently Rob Davison walked right across it.

Running 32:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Late afternoon jog, cos that's what we always do, round some of the limestone moor with Neil, Pete, Little Rob and Mick Stenton. My arteries were still struggling with the lunchtime fry-up, even after the run.

Note

Beat Neil (and came equal first) in the picking-up-cornflake-box-off-the-ground-with-your-teeth game. I think my high level of flexibility must be down to my intense daily stretching sessions paying off.

Running 43:00 [3]

Running 50:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 1024

HFW - got in a race with someone who was quite fast. Couldn't pass him but stayed on his heels. This lasted about 10minutes. I couldn't drop off because then he'd look behind him and see that he'd dropped me and think I was some kind of jogger or something. Anyway, at the top of the hill he saw my shadow behind him and realised I was still there and in an instant peeled off to the left across the grass in Roundhay Park. He must've been knackered. Victory! I jogged home. Then I dumped the bag and did a bit extra out to Shadwell.

Running intervals 20:00 [5]
shoes: New Balance 1024 - 2nd pair

10x90secs (30secs recovery) on flat roads round Wigton Moor and Alwoodley. Saw a big group of runners. Ran hard but felt very slow and tired. Walked back to Gracie in the recoveries, but to be honest didn't have very far to walk.

Running 32:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance 1024

Monday morning 7am run with Gracie. The idea is that this will become a regular Monday session.

Running 51:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Night run with headtorch across frosty, frozen solid fields. Really really cold, but quite still so nice conditions. I went to 3 trig points - one in a hedge near Woodhouse Farm, one on Birkby Hill and one in another hedge near Brandon Lodge. How do you like them apples? Ran pretty hard truth be told. Contemplated calling it a "4", but it's the training what counts, not what's logged.

Rivelin with Gracie and Kelly for a bit, then with Pete, Neil, Rob B and John. Good fun making up what we were going to get up to tomorrow.

Running 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

From our bunkhouse in Edale up onto Kinder with Alex, Neil, Pete, Little Rob and Ash. Kinder was frozen solid so it was pretty quick across the top. Downfall was completely frozen which was pretty speccy too.
