Note
(sick) (rest day)

Spoke too soon - sniffle's come on. If it goes as quick as it came, I'll be reet.

Sunday Jun 28, 2009 #

Running 1:26:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Having a moderate, rather than a heavy, night on the beer seems to have cleared up my slight cold, so I headed out to Swinsty Reservoir and did a nice loop through Timble Ings, Askwith Moor (trig), Weston Moor (trig) and back up the valley. Kept a reasonable pace up without killing it.

Note
(rest day)

Dave's stag-do in Manchester. Personal highlights were watching Neil and Oli struggle with being in a shopping centre, and watching Mike and Dave do a half-pint downing race.

Running 33:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 1024 - 2nd pair

Snuck out for a cruise round Meanwood, Hyde Park and back through the university at lunch time. Quite muggy but ok. Lots of dirty students about. Hints of a sore throat but being that I'm immune to colds, I'm not worried.

Running 1:14:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Cracking evening. Out Shadwell/Wike way but found a couple of new tracks to run along, one of which was utter shite. Hit the road at the end of it and sped along cursing my stinging legs for a bit before realising I was very tired so slowed down a bit.

Running 1:01:00 [3]

Street Lane, Tunnel How Hill, Adel, Eccup Res, Alwoodley. Nice loop, felt quite good. Thunder rumbling around.

Note
(rest day)

Nothing like a bit of white-water rafting to clear a hangover. It didn't, but it had a good go. Awesome fun.

Saturday Jun 20, 2009 #

Running 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Dressed as a pirate, walked the plank, orienteered in a cave, fired some potato canons, sat on a steam train, got drunk, sang Bonny Tyler. Cracking stag-do!

Running 31:00 [3]

IW. Quads and hammies buggered from footy the other day. That's the last time I go cross training.

HFW - really tired.

HFW and to Gledhow Valley and back.

Orienteering race (Gledhow Summer Series) 22:00 [4]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

A dark day for my orienteering career - soundly beaten by my future wife. Not only that, but she caught and passed me. I put the boot in and got back ahead and sprinted for the line in a desperate attempt to make back as much time as possible (not knowing how long after me she'd started), but it wasn't enough. I ended up 2 minutes behind. Of course, I was delighted for her.

Tuesday Jun 16, 2009 #

Footy (Le Tournoi de Pricing) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Haven't played in ages, but scored a belter in my first game. Haven't lost the magic. Couldn't believe how screwed I got though - different kind of exercise than I'm used to.

Running 1:28:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Went for an afternoon out in the Dales with Gracie since it was nice and sunny and we actually had a free day for once. We ran together from Bolton Abbey, up Simon's Seat and down the Valley of Desolation which ironically was about as quaint a little valley as you'll ever see. A really fun run on a lovely day, followed by a pint and a lemonade in the pub after. Jukola shmukola I say.

Event: Jukola 2009

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

After a day in Sheffield doing wedding things, we managed to get out onto Rivelin for a run. I like Rivelin, it was nice. Legs a bit tired but didn't hang about too much.

Running 34:00 [2]

Nice cruise with Gracie round Roundhay Park.

Orienteering race (Nordic sprint qual) 15:30 [5]
shoes: New Balance 1024 - 2nd pair

Didn't feel too bad (not in terrain). Lost some time on some routes early on, and had some emit related problems at the end. Without these I'd have been "only" 1 minute down, which would've been about what I expected.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance 1024 - 2nd pair

13 up, 2 down.

Orienteering race (Nordic middle) 40:00 [5]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

Take out all the non-Brits, and I did ok. Put them back in, and I did rather poorly. The run itself was pretty good - just a couple of minor wobbles. The long race was still in my legs and the terrain felt really tough. I was dead at the end - felt like a classic. Hard to know what more I could've done - more training in Finland I guess if I wanted to do well. Pretty happy with how I dealt with the course and my shape on the day though, and it was a really fun course.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

15 up, 5 down.

Monday Jun 8, 2009 #

Orienteering 18:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 1024 - 2nd pair

Just a cruise round the sprint model - managed to stack it twice.

Sunday Jun 7, 2009 #

Orienteering race (Nordic relay) 35:00 [5]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

Speakey ran a blinder and put me out in the lead pack. Hung on through the first 2.5km, feeling quite strong. Lost touch on a long leg, but stayed in contact. Then caught some stragglers on the hill near the control and foolishly got put off and ran to the wrong gaffle. After my mistake I felt a lot tireder and made further wobbles. I should've stayed more focussed and I could've got a good time. As it was, I lost belief and slowed a fair bit.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

15 up, 5 down.

Saturday Jun 6, 2009 #

Orienteering race (Nordic long) 1:45:00 [4]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

Ran well for the first 35mins (2mins behind Jarko - my 2minute man...) but got tired in the terrain after that and made tiredness related wobbles. Came far down the results, but couldn't have done all that much better to be honest. Technically sound, but can't really train for that kind of relentless terrain in Leeds.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

10 up, 5 down.

Orienteering race (AIRE Sprint - Esholt) 17:00 [5]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

Well nice bit of wood - very enjoyable. Fairly straightforward sprint but stuff to think about and made a miss on the tricky control (10).

Running 25:00 [3]
shoes: jalas o-shoes

10up/15down with Gracie.
