Yoga 1:35:00 [2]

Tough on the thighs today but some great stretches on muscles that certainly needed it. The heat helped to loosen things up too.

Orienteering 4:30:00 [4]

I roughly calculated our distance from the race and it looks like I ran 41.5km while Slice ran 43.3km. Like I said this is a rough estimate - I just used a string to measure....

Orienteering 1:26:00 [5]

What a day!!! The heat was almost unbearable as Slice and I teamed up for the 6 hour adventure run at Navstock in Horseshoe Valley. Bash had set the course so we knew it would be good and challenging. In the heat we knew we had to watch our fluid and salt intake and manage our speed. Slice went for the double waist pack of gel/water mix and snacks to keep a hot pack off of her back. I was going to do the same but chickened out and went for the pack with bladder instead. It was hot on the back but I carried a lot of fluid and I know that helped.

We started of with a bus ride to bass lake sideroad north of the 8th line. I bike and run here so I knew how far from HV we were - yikes, that's a long way to run back...and it wasn't until we got back to HV that we started the rogaine...

We had 4 of 5 maps before the start and at the start line we got Map #1. I usually don't like getting maps right before the start since I tend to pick bad routes but we picked a good one this time and finished the first 7 checkpoints with Nick Duca and Will Smith and only a little bit behind Bender and Grizz. We then ran about 1.7km down the Bass Lake Sideroad and into the Simcoe County forest. I know this area quite well but not well enough to hinder my decision making. Besides when I am going from control to control in a race I could be in my own backyard and wouldn't even know it. Controls 8-10 went really well and then we hit the matrix. I LET Slice take the two furthest controls while I stuck closer to CP10/11. I arrived not too long before Slice and we filled up with water again before running into the next section of forest. We found CP#12 no problem and then had to walk the line.....we knew Bender and Grizz were ahead of us but when we found their control card on the ground we knew we would see them shortly. Luckily for them we are nice and also that we were on the walk the line section so we would cross paths for sure. We saw them around the next corner coming toward us and told them they owed us a beer in exchange for the conrol card. We finished the walk the line just behind them and lost a bit of time on the way to 14. Now the road run.

we ran through Sugarbush and onto the Ganaraska trail over to the 5th line, out to Horseshoe Valley road and back down the fourth line for the next section. We managed to catch GrizzlyBender at HV road and passed them before the section where you had to write down the road names of the location of the 10 pictures on a sheet of paper. Slice navigated us through the roads and wrote down the street names and order that we saw the items in while I just kept my eyes peeled and tried to keep up. This section went well and we made it back to the start/finish area for E=mc2 at 3 hours......Of course I made Liza do one climb and one mud run while I did one long climb.

Refilling with water and electrolytes again we headed out on the rogaine deciding to do the southern part of HV first. All of these controls went well although the heat was getting to us and we welcomed the shady forest. The only drag about this section is that we had to run all the way back down to the tunnel at the bottom of HV before crossing to the north side rather than crossing at the top and grabbing another control there.

We had one hour and ten minutes left when we got to the tunnel so we decided we would get a 40 pointer and a 50 pointer on the north side before heading home. Our time looked good though so we went for one more 60 pointer. On our way to #51 we bobbled a bit and had trouble deciding whether the control was in a valley or on a spur......we finally figured it out and found the control before heading for home. I had some serious stitches in my side at this point and was in agony but Slice coached me along in trying to get rid of them and once again encouraged me to the finish with only 4 minutes to spare.

We had a great day out there and worked really well together moving from control to control. I am happy to say too that we won overall!!! We knew we had a good day but didn't know it was that good. We ended up with 760 points in the end! Great course set by Bash! Thanks Slice for another great race! Bobkittens rule!

Mountain Biking 2:00:00 [3]

Coach LD and I rode up to Albion to meet up with Bent and Rocky for a Wednesday morning ride. Bash was out due to the fact that her bike frame is cracked and Bent was still riding on his old recumbent. The roots were slippery and I was all over the place until Rocky asked me what psi my tires were pumped to. Oh yeah, Phatty had pumped my tires to about 80 psi for the weekend and I had no traction. Things went much better after I let some of the air out. We even took some photos despite how bad the bugs were when we stopped. Great ride. We called this the "estrogen ride" even though Bent was there.....I think he was flattered. Too bad we missed his reverse endo on one of the hills......I think he is VERY anxious to get his bike back from his mechanic!!

Fun start to the day.

Trail Running 1:01:00 [3]

Bash and I were finally able to reunite for a tuesday run on the HVT. Was muggy but at least the sun wasn't beating down on us. My legs finally felt much better...I am thanking the yoga session last night and I think I have found my wonder recovery medicine!
