Running 1:05:00 [3] 7.0 mi (9:17 / mi)

Railroad trail at the Hoover Dam.
Started from the scenic lookout to avoid the massive queue at the Dam carpark itself, ran to the dam 1.5miles, did the tourist thing for half and hour, ran back to the Lake Mead visitor center, 3.5 miles, had a little poke around, then ran back to the car.
The dam itself is quite big, but (rather obviously) smaller than the canyon walls and dwarfed by the scenery. The direct consequence of the dam, Lake Mead, is extraordinary. The indirect consequence, Vegas, LA, Phoenix is mindboggling.

Running 55:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:51 / mi)

Ran from Phoenix airport car drop off back to hotel (Extended Stay America) in Midtown. Phoenix is a little quieter at night than Vegas, just a few confused-looking postdocs wandering around.

Hiking 6:00:00 [3] 12.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

Many and various in Zion with Ioan and Marju.

Zion has buses, and the parking was full. We paid $10, plus entry fee.

Nice stroll from the park entrance to bus stop 3 to avoid crazy Easter lines. Bikes would have been a good idea.

Hiked up towards angels landing. It was mobbed, lots of waiting in lines. Got about halfway from the trail branch then gave up looking at the trail of people ahead. Went about a half mile along the West Rim trail ... within moments we had the trail to ourselves, looking back to the ant trail up Angels Landing. Got far enough to see the other way up the Canyon. Brilliant. Hiked back via Emerald Pools and back to Vegas.

Then, by way of contrast, another couple of hours walking in from the motel and wandering around casinos. Quite weary by the end of it all.

Note

Could have been crawling around Wass at the JK today... J&J did pretty well.

Hiking 2:00:00 [2] 5.0 mi (24:00 / mi)

Long driving day with Ioan and Marju to Zion. Stopped to hike up the Kelso Dunes in Mojave. Nice, hard work on the way up, only Ioan being daft enough to test whether the critical angle is the same for Romanians as sand (ans: basically yes). Ran down - wheee!

Running 1:05:00 [2] 5.0 mi (13:00 / mi)

Ewoldsen Trail, Big Sur. Steep and rather splendid.

Running 45:00 [1] 3.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Waterfall and Valley View trails in big Sur. Too steep and busy to really run, and not that exciting either.
