Running 1:25:00 [3] 10.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Inspired by the week away, ran round Tynecastle, WoL, Galleries -> Leith Walk and back up Calton and the pleasance. Edinburgh is a lot warmer than Belgium! Left knee a bit sore by the end.

Orienteering race 53:45 [4] 6.3 mi (8:32 / mi)

Day 5. Solterheide.
A good end to a good week. Feeling more positive about, erm, forest o than for a long time. Spent most of the race on my feet and running, which has the pleasing effect of making me at least try in the stnmbly fally overy bits.
Despite some faffing on pits in green, got the best score of the week. Probably due more to the winner doing similar faffing.

James and Jane did enough to win their respective classes, I was a respectable , if curse of INTy, 4th on m45.

Organisers had a genius idea to provide a 1:5000 blow up of an otherwise unreadable quarry area. And a distinctly non genius idea of not telling us. Only james of EBT noticed, and having taken 32 mins to catch 40 sec, he was on my tail after we left from -4.

Orienteering race 38:35 [4] 5.6 mi (6:53 / mi)

Day 4. Heerte. Hands and kness bloodied from falling. Legs bloodied from brambles. Bloody middle distance, and bloody good fun. Running harder than the last couple of days, but held it together fine. Thought it would be a good time, but james rattled round in 32, plus a couple of extra minutes of emittage. Minus a DQ for a wrong control. Hah. Allegedly leading when we left, but lots of adjustment was needed to the results.

Jane also DQed from an emit failure, but they had a camera at the finish so she'll probably be back in for a fourth straight win.

Running warm up/down 26:00 [2] 3.0 mi (8:40 / mi)

Legging it to the start, just got there in time, and back from the finish with a French guy who I'd seen on the course. Sub zero all day, if dry, so a proper warm up and down was welcome.

Orienteering race 46:46 [4] 6.3 mi (7:25 / mi)

Day 3@St martensberg
Ventured into the Netherlands for another grid forest with a little sandy hill relief. Emit didn't work so much faffage at the start, they found another and sent me off with 30 sec to fit the backup, control dix etc. Unsurprisingly, missed the 90 degree turn at the start. Once settled, carefully punched kept the backup in place . Pretty decent run after that. Quite a bit rougher than yesterday, but quite clean, just a couple of 30 seconders. Almost caught Ray by the end, having been dropped and recaught a nippy Belge who took 30 sec out of me running across the field at the end to catch Ray. Best day so far with some tricky low viz and real features.

After some further emit related faffage at download, got reinstated, as Claire had on day 1.

Orienteering race 46:35 [4] 6.8 mi (6:51 / mi)

Day 2 Don Bosco.
Sandy area with some technical control pick early and late. Good fun, lost 2 mins at the end and just scrambled in a few seconds ahead of a jogging Ray Ward EBT.
James 43+

Note

Fell over three times on the course today. Can't remember the last time it was even countable. Quite liking this runnable forest malarky.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Post satnav fail stress reduction,. And post race warm down

Orienteering race 55:25 [4] 6.5 mi (8:32 / mi)

Sylvester day 1
Kolisbos.
No contours today, the main obstacle being ditches to clamber over. A lot of fun, legging it round paths and cutting through nice but could be nicer woods. Veg boundaries weren't so easy to figure out. Last start, would have been quite helpful to have people at the nonfeatures.

Sunday Dec 25, 2016 #

Running 45:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

To holyrood, and a run around the quarries looking for map errors. And finding quite a few!

Cold, wet, dark and in shorts. Haven't enjoyed a session so much for ages.

Would like to report that I ran the session with Sarah O'Neil. Less impressive that it would be if she hadn't run a 40 miler on Sunday.

Sunday Dec 18, 2016 #

Orienteering 57:30 [3] 5.0 mi (11:30 / mi)

Tay Xmas score. Drummond Castle.

First time back here since the Scottish Relays, and though wet it has recovered from the storm to be nice. Plus they only used the nice side.
Still felt leaden-legged and a back&forth with SKW emphasized just how desperately terrain brings me to a halt.

Made a couple of poor route choices and missed one out which, in retrospect, I had time for. Also (as usual) couldn't find the Xmas FNLf which sent me tumbling down the standings. Still, james failed to win cos he had no Santa hat!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

To the chocolate control again, and to get lunch.

Saturday Dec 17, 2016 #

Thursday Dec 15, 2016 #

Running race 28:52 [4] 4.1 mi (7:02 / mi)

KB dash. Massive PW, ran on my own without a watch and felt hard without tying up, so mildly wondering/hoping if there's a minute wrong there. Probably not, I'm falling apart.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

pre&post dash and home

Wednesday Dec 14, 2016 #

Monday Dec 12, 2016 #

Running 55:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:51 / mi)

Monday run, finishing along the glen road. Did some of the pushes, which seemed to involve more extra arm effort than leg effort. Ho hum.

Sunday Dec 11, 2016 #

Running 45:00 [3] 6.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Pitt, Caute, Rowden, Buckland, college path and home. Bright cheery morning in Shebbear.

Thursday Dec 8, 2016 #

Running 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Longer than planned run up to Mortonhall, check out the sprint course for the w/e, then back via Alnwickhill, Braids and the farm track.

The new map could be a lot sharper, but the area is quite interesting and a nice addition to our portfolio.

Wednesday Dec 7, 2016 #

Running 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

In

Running 48:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Tuesday Dec 6, 2016 #

Running 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

A enormous faff of a non-interval session.
Decided to go the the Haries session, which james has been doing, but it was cold and wet, so when I ran home (mile 1) and found he wasn't going I lost heart and faffed a bit, then ran down, and started chatting to jjarvis instead of joining in. The Tricia shamed me into running 4x600 at 5min/km pace, and since she was stepping out I also ran 2 at 4min/km pace. a bit more jogging about, then home.

Guess its better than nothing.

Monday Dec 5, 2016 #

Running 54:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:43 / mi)

and for no obvious reason, back in the swing of it today with a full Monday run

Sunday Dec 4, 2016 #

Running 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Saturday Dec 3, 2016 #

Orienteering 2:00:00 [1] 10.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Extensive visit to Binning. Looks quite nice now.

Friday Dec 2, 2016 #

Running 56:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Out around Craigmillar and Greendykes. Feeling unreasonably achey, perhaps not unconnected with James being off school with a cold.

Running 9:00 [2] 1.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Home

Thursday Dec 1, 2016 #
