Running 1:30:00 [2] 6.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Blackford Hill, checking out James course, some fartlek, general futzing

Friday Dec 30, 2011 #

Running 3:32:00 [2] 19.0 mi (11:09 / mi)

Joining kitch for the first part of one of his big epics. Wasn't expecting him to show up with ice axe and ski poles for a wet and snowless Pentlands run though.

We ran the skyline route from Flotterstone to the end at Hillend. Then I jogged home, kitch went off for more. I got home just before the heavens opened, poor kitch wasn't so lucky.

kitches + godderses round for brio, tea and cake pm. Nice to get some children at Xmas :)

Thursday Dec 29, 2011 #

Running 1:05:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:07 / mi)

With/from godders, Capelaw, allermuir, back

Wednesday Dec 28, 2011 #

Orienteering 2:30:00 [1] 12.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

Faffing and jogging around mapping and controlling the street race. Allegedly there was a weather warning worthy major storm blowing round me. It was a bit quiet in town.

Tuesday Dec 27, 2011 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Faffing around Boness with James checking sites for a course James planned

Running intervals 34:00 [4] 5.0 mi (6:48 / mi)

Reps from home, St.Albans and Relugas loop. 3;58 58 57 54 54. Hard work, but feeling a bit more fluid than for a while. Nice

Monday Dec 26, 2011 #

Running 36:00 [3] 4.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Goring - Streatley Hill, two fartlek pushes up the hill and ziggety-zagging down tother side. Light headed and dizzy - too much Xmas food or fag end of a cold?

Sunday Dec 25, 2011 #

Running 1:10:00 [3] 9.0 mi (7:47 / mi)

Goring - South Stoke, past the bridge collapsed ove rthe railway, Woodcote Elvenden lane & back. Nice, warm clear day.

Saturday Dec 24, 2011 #

Orienteering 1:45:00 [3] 13.0 mi (8:05 / mi)

Concorde chase test run of black course. Minley. Nice. Still a but coldy/slow, and huge blunder (7-8 mins) going 6 -16 - 15 - 7. Even if it's not meant for over 50s, 105 suggests probably a tad on the long side, I think they'll take the nastiest leg out.

Friday Dec 23, 2011 #

Running 58:00 [3] 8.0 mi (7:15 / mi)

Gatehampton road loop via Cray's Pond. These English love their misleading Private, Dead End, Keep Out, and Git orf moi Laand even for a loop entirely on tarmaced public road. Nice run though.

Thursday Dec 22, 2011 #

Running 52:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:26 / mi)

Run the final section of the Carlisle-Goring drive (via Blackpool - what a dump!). In the dark, pretending light pollution is moonlight across the Chilterns for a night road run. Nice, apart from the odd car wrecking the night vision. Still feel a bit rough - Jane&James now streaming ill

Wednesday Dec 21, 2011 #

Running 56:00 [2] 7.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Faffy, coughy, run down to George square and check parts of Edinburgh Street race. Some controls inaccessible, and lot of gates. Work to do.

Tuesday Dec 20, 2011 #

Running intervals 50:00 [3] 6.5 mi (7:42 / mi)

Ill
Jog down with J&J then 5x1000 in 4:13 07 00 3:53 38. Probably not wise, especially the last one, but its Xmas. In good comedy, today was the day they gave a prize for the most balanced set.

Monday Dec 19, 2011 #

Note

Ill. Rainy.

Sunday Dec 18, 2011 #

Orienteering 20:40 [3] 3.0 mi (6:53 / mi)

Test run an M21 course at Livingston. Too icy to really rush.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Check out control sites.

Orienteering 20:40 [3] 3.0 mi (6:53 / mi)

Test run another M21 course, with a spectator control. Uncanny time!

Running 36:00 [3] 4.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Evening run. Meadows, Quartermile, George square. Nothing new for the map.

Friday Dec 16, 2011 #

Running 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Up at 7 before another day of hotel-meeting-dinner-hotel to sneak in a run.

Through the Tiergarten in the dark, emerging by the Brandenburg gate alight with Christmas decor, down the Unter den Linden for a bit of post-GDR experience, back as the dawn cracked to run across the lawn by the Reichstag and back along the Spree. Twould have been more efficient to run the route the other way, getting the view of the Reichstag and the woods in the light, but I'm not in the German swing of things yet.

Done by 7:45

Wednesday Dec 14, 2011 #

Running intervals 40:00 [4] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Liberton sports ground, wet underfoot, cold but not frozen. Barefoot 6x3:15 reps. Felt good. Squeezed in a gap in another superfull day.

Jog home too for a gratuitous mile.

Tuesday Dec 13, 2011 #

Running 28:00 [3] 4.0 mi (7:00 / mi)

Very windy and wet, not time for hanging about. Ran home, then 3x1200 reps around relugas & st alban. Much faster downwind!

Monday Dec 12, 2011 #

Running 54:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:43 / mi)

Nice cool December day under blue skies, ran the full Monday route briskly but without fartlek.

Sunday Dec 11, 2011 #

Running 1:35:00 [3] 9.0 mi (10:33 / mi)

Pentlands, Hillend ->Bells and back. Cold. Police out looking for a lost person "inappropriately dressed for the conditions". Graeme in lycra and crisp packet.

Saturday Dec 10, 2011 #

Running 1:02:00 [2] 8.0 mi (7:45 / mi)

Slippy plod in melting snow, from StG, Corstorphine Hill, and back vis start of Colinton Dell.

Friday Dec 9, 2011 #

Running 51:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:17 / mi)

Hermitage, firrhill and back. Icy crispy day, felt pretty good.

Thursday Dec 8, 2011 #

Running hills 55:00 [3] 6.0 mi (9:10 / mi)

Hill session on Blackford with Lorna, Kirsten & JBF. A tad breezy so ran the more sheltered lower slope for the long ones 6*45 + 6*2min. Never really got pushing hard.

Note

Got back to find Uni closed due to high winds.

Wednesday Dec 7, 2011 #

Running 52:00 [2] 6.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Recovery run round Craigmillar. New level 2.

Tuesday Dec 6, 2011 #

Running 35:00 [2] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

James left his swimming kit home, so early morning jog into Heriots to deliver. Freezing weather under blue skies.

Running intervals 1:05:00 [4] 8.0 mi (8:07 / mi)

MS 3:35 33 35 36 35
Cold, still, not quite icy. Run down, lap warm down, run home.

Monday Dec 5, 2011 #

Running 55:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:51 / mi)

Monday run, full. Felt like it was a hard race yesterday! did two pushes, down in the hermitage and up to observatory.

Sunday Dec 4, 2011 #

Orienteering race 1:00:00 [5] 8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

STAG Glasgow 3-parks M40+ 4th behind Dixie, Donald and DaveR. Passed by Dave on the last leg, demonstrating how slow I am: need to find another ~5% to get competitive.

Graeme Ackland 12:07 (4) 16:08 (5) 23:55 (4) 52:10
fastest 11:16 13:19 22:31

1. Kings Park. 12:07. Flat out, no errors, 40sec down
2. Cathkin Braes. Last start, found the mini kites hard to see, lost much time in circles, then tried to run to 7 direct from 5.
3. Queens Park. Lost 15 sec looking for start triangle. Passed by Dave R on 2-3, caught Mark wood mid way, and Patrick towards the end. Tried to throw it away by sliding offline on the last leg, but just hung on with Patrick in sight at the end.

Note

Swelling in left calf has gone down to reveal ... very little muscle at all. Three months of not bending the knee has taken a toll, can't even stand on left tiptoe.

Saturday Dec 3, 2011 #

Running 1:03:00 [3] 9.0 mi (7:00 / mi)

St G -> Granton, Forth shore, wee extra loop on last fortnight, Silverknowes back to StG on footpaths.

Cold, clear day, the wind blowing the Forth to choppy carnage. Running along the shore into the wind reminded me of that awful 7 min mile in Liberty State Park for the eastern States half champs in 02, the only time anyone paid me to race. North Queensferry might not be Manhattan, but the park has a definite US feel to it.

Jane ill, James 9:30 class left no prospect of doing the parkrun, which was packing up as I passed. Left calf is still doing not much - looks quite wasted in fact.

Friday Dec 2, 2011 #

Running 52:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:26 / mi)

Firrhill loop as last fortnight. proper 3.

Thursday Dec 1, 2011 #

Running hills 55:00 [3] 6.0 mi (9:10 / mi)

Hills. 6x50sec 6x2:10. Bit slower than usual, a tad cold and windy. Also run home from work for +1 mile.
