Friday Feb 28, 2014 #

Running 55:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:51 / mi)

Craigmillar, some faffing in Niddrie, and back through the Inch.

Thursday Feb 27, 2014 #

Running 32:00 [3] 4.5 mi (7:07 / mi)

Round the Hermitage and a bit of KB. Foot swollen.

Wednesday Feb 26, 2014 #

Running 50:00 [2] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Craigmillar and ERI.

Note

7 am. Foot hot hot burrrny. J rediagnoses cellulitis.
So I'm packed off to get quacked.
3 min appointment blocks: "Your wife is correct, get fluclox"

Damned efficient the NHS of today.

Tuesday Feb 25, 2014 #

Running intervals 30:00 [4] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Meadows Long. 4:52 48 45 50 48
Nice night. Right foot v.swollen post flight, not best.

Running warm up/down 50:00 [2] 5.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

lab, home, meadows, lap, home

Note

It took quite a while to get my shoe on, on account of one foot being twice the other. Not painful, but unstable which given the other leg doesn't balance at all is not ideal for this w/e's Dark Peak Marathon. Jane diagnoses a DVT and suggests jacking. Obviously she's right, so...

Monday Feb 24, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [2] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Shortened Monday run. 12 hours solid sleep J&J got up and went with me oblivious

Sunday Feb 23, 2014 #

Note

Travel day
11:30 Sat Depart Newport Beach.
19:30 Sun Arrive Relugas Road.

Saturday Feb 22, 2014 #

Running 2:15:00 [3] 16.0 mi (8:26 / mi)

Newport beach "pre breakfast". From motel6 - back bay loop (v nice), then some faffing to find a away across pacific highway (rush & pray). Long drag on big road about 15m from sea (hidden by private property). Old town lido (really...). Then proper pooped heading slowly back 22 blocks out to motel. No kidding west coast blocks. LAX free wifi, and that's that.

Friday Feb 21, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [2] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Hellhole Canyon. A waterfall in the desert

Running 1:30:00 [1] 5.0 mi (18:00 / mi)

The maze at Anza Borrego.
A 2 hr drive to see what all the fuss was about, and a black and white photocopied map and armchair planned course. Completely blown away by the detail - got wedged in a too narrow canyon before 1, found 2, then wholly lost, bailed out, ran around a bit, back to the car. Try again, but still cragbound, slippery slopebound. Don't really have the balance for this terrain, especially with cacti waiting to embrace a fall. Unbelievably tricky orienteering.

Orienteering 35:00 [2] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Steady run in the more normal bit of A-B. Spur-gully stuff with slippy stoney stuff. Not so nice.

Note

When I got to the park, they had no idea what O was, let alone where the area was. No topo map at the visitor center. No trail map even! They said Hellhole was the most likely place, so I went there for a nice run/scramble.
Back at the visitor center, the pm staff knew where the slot canyons were (20 miles away...) and some trail maps arrived so I could verify it. I was unable to explain what I was planning to do. Welcome to America.

Thursday Feb 20, 2014 #

Running 40:00 [2] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Up and down hills at Cabrillo

Running 45:00 [2] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Out to the waterfront, down past the hilton, back to the grocery store. 7:30pm, meeting over.

Wednesday Feb 19, 2014 #

Running 42:00 [2] 5.0 mi (8:24 / mi)

7am Out west to the shore, round to the Convention centre, back up 10th Ave.

Tuesday Feb 18, 2014 #

Running 40:00 [2] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Awful, pre breakfast run in Balbao Park.

Sunday Feb 16, 2014 #

Running intervals 1:40:00 [2] 9.0 mi (11:07 / mi)

Joshua Tree trail intervals

1m
3m (300m climb) Ryan Peak
1m
4m Porcupine wash

plus some too short to bother with.

Running 30:00 [2] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

Run down the beach at Salton Sea. Really rather amazing - running not on not sand, but made of shells and fishbones. Significant pelican action. The water of the "Sea" itself was disgusting green-slime on brown-brack, and it took bloody forever to drive round, even though it's apparently only floodwater from 1905.

Saturday Feb 15, 2014 #

Running 48:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:36 / mi)

Big moron go canyon after transatlantic

Note

Travel day.

Tuesday Feb 11, 2014 #

Running 45:00 [2] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Lab, home, Meadows, lap, home

Running intervals 30:00 [4] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Meadows long: 4:50 51 49 48 45. Cold, windy, icy on my ownio. Light snow on the way there. Not the night for running fast.

Monday Feb 10, 2014 #

Running 56:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Monday run to Morningside road, where dead light made it impossible to cross, so divert back through Astley Ainslie

Sunday Feb 9, 2014 #

Running warm up/down 12:00 [1] 1.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Derisory

Orienteering race 40:14 [4]

ESOC sprint South Queensferry.

Good fun chasing sprint. Shambolic off the start not reading ISSOM brown path amid parallel contours. Further shenanigans later on through that section, scrabbling up the wrong side of the bank, then topped it off by missing the last control (Wall end - no walls on the map! but still inexcusable to not check beforehand.)

Prologue 21:41
Chase 18:33

Heartily thumped by 3.5mins by DaveR and RogerG. Held position in Chase, catching and passing Kirstin Maxwell, then running into a dead end.

Note

GG guide to Urban mapping. There are only two issues:
"Can I get through?"
"Could my mum get over it?"
Neat.

Saturday Feb 8, 2014 #

Running race 18:47 [4] 3.1 mi (6:04 / mi)

Parkrun, cold clear and still morming. Perfect

Orienteering 3:20:00 [1] 8.0 mi (25:00 / mi)

Daytrip north. assorted bits of running testing etc.

Friday Feb 7, 2014 #

Running 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Braids loop. Sunny spring day, spring in the step. Wish the "cold" would make its mind up.

Thursday Feb 6, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [2] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)

Flatter than a halibut on a skating holiday in Norfolk: definitely a cold coming on. J&J both streaming at home. So busy feeling meh I ended up out at Greendykes before deciding what to do (turn round and go home).

Wednesday Feb 5, 2014 #

Running 1:02:00 [3] 8.0 mi (7:45 / mi)

Down around castle, PSG, Rose St, St.James, Calton, out east and back through Holyrood park and estates. RTC backup plan. Steady.

Tuesday Feb 4, 2014 #

Running 52:00 [2] 5.0 mi (10:24 / mi)

Lab-home-meadows-lap-home

Running 29:00 [3] 4.0 mi (7:15 / mi)

Meadows Long 4:43 40 42 47 45. Lots of excuses. Bit weary after weekend. Incipient cold. Unhelpful 4:25 group starting in zero.

Monday Feb 3, 2014 #

Running 58:00 [2] 7.0 mi (8:17 / mi)

Weary Monday loop, finishing on the south side of Braid Burn. A lot of tree gone in the Hermitage, drawn to a halt by slippy mud below the golf course. Bit of a cold threatening.

Sunday Feb 2, 2014 #

Running 1:30:00 [3] 9.9 mi (9:05 / mi)

Pentland run with Paul. CastleLaw, Hare Hill,Harlaw, round the reservoir, back between Black and Bells, Glencorse then back up to Castlelaw carpark.
On the brisk side. Paul shooting away in the narrow muddy bits, otherwise well matched.

Saturday Feb 1, 2014 #

Running race 36:00 [5] 5.0 mi (7:12 / mi)

Vet XC. Hawick. 48th, 15th M50. An epic, slicing wind, Horizontal hail, rain, sleet all at a nasty 2 degrees. Every club tent commandeered for hypothermia treatment.

So obviously I loved all that, but still struggled with slippery corners. Went on my ears (anag.) once, and by the end was mincing round like liberace in heels, which was all a bit bollox. Hating this lack of balance, didn't even feel properly shattered at the end (but I'll give it a 5 anyway). Jethro came past at half way in proper Borders no nonsense fashion en route to a silver in M55.

Running warm up/down 32:00 [1] 3.0 mi (10:40 / mi)

Surprisingly competent amount of warming up and down, given the conditions.
