FASIC Doctors.
I've never seen a doctor actually look like they're enjoying themself while doctoring before. Lots of muttering, "hmm, interesting, lets try this, da di dah, You can do this? How odd. You can't do that? never seen anything like this before."

Diagnosis: not Gastrocnemius at all. Something behind which controls ankles and big toe tib post and FHL. Can't push my big toe - who knew?
Referred to specialist, McKinley, more for interest than hope of a cure.

An appointment well worth £40 for the sum of human happiness, though I'm not sure who should be paying whom.

Right calf sore, normally that's what you get after an interval session in sub-optimally aged shoes, but the asymmetry is somehow more disturbing than the soreness.

Cold, still evening. Lots of people, ran with Clare, watch Edel, Chloe, Robin, ChrisG and Alastair stream by. Jane, James, Max, Tess Eades Ken all around too. Nice.
Everything above the knee in good functional order. No left calf, right ankle unstable. Felt OK, but awkward. Right calf sore afterwards.

National XC. 241/496 Ran OK, but feels a bit bloodless nowadays with no zip. Went off a tad fast, and spent much of the first lap sliding backwards, then stable or climbing on 2&3. Pretty similar to vets champs, not as good East districts.

Adidas spikes. Meant to be wide, but they're not wide enough that I could get them on at Forres - probable cause of sore feet&ankle. Solution is hardly rocket science, cut off the three-stripe logo. Why didn't I think of it before?

Right ankle/foot still sore to run, left calf hardly there at all. Finally got a doctors appointment at FASIC after an evening googling threw up at least one other case which sounded identical - Gastrocnemius atrophy, tibial nerve at fault? Nobody who got cured though.

Got chased out of the safe lanes at the edge of the pool, and didn't fancy spending time out of my depth with float held only between thighs. got some strap on stuff, but other were fed up with swimming by then. Spent an hour recovering from bad drinkage experience. Will I never learn?

9am Tim wanted to do a fast mile. Tried to pace him, but could only manage 2x200m sections @ 75 sec laps pace. Tried to follow with some 400s, but only managed 2 @82. Bit close to breakfast...

Bike ride to top on the Tabayesco climb by Haria with Tim. Meant to be easy, but a big climb into the wind from Famara was tough (even with Tim on the front). Trolled out to the restaurant, then ate cake, then noticed an hour remains to get the 22 miles back again. Did so.

Up the hill to Tanajo. Down the hill into the wind. No respite.
Team triathlon with Jane & James, went out first, Robin whistled by, taking over a minute out of me in total. 2nd back, 2nd fastest. alex passed James & Freddie to win, we finished 4th, one individual passed James near the end, and a woman, who he repassed in a sprint finish cheered by the other boys.

Swimming lesson. Perishing cold, failed to warm-up or concentrate, back to be for an hour to warm up.

"experienced" ride. 70-90km, but so windy it got abridged, out around the East Teguise end of the island. started brutally quick to lose half the group, then a fun experience of riding in a pack. Generally found myself at the back all the time, which was Ok until the pack broke up and I was stranded with the slower group and a windy gap to bridge (or fail to). Nasty cross wind, spend a good 30sec on the front front in the entire ride. Which seemed to be taken as affront.

Intervals on exercise bike. Finally got something more upbeat on the ipod and after much faffing the HRM too.
2mins steady, then
6 x 1min on 1 off
then 3 mins
then 3 by 2 on/1off
then 4 mins steady
Much sweat developed, but HRM tells me I can't get it up to max within 2mins (even then, only to 140). Maybe this happens when you get old (or Garmin is slow, wish?) Still, it implies those 1 minute reps, though full of sound and fury, aren't achieving anything useful.

Vets XC at Forres. 7th M50, 54th/119 overall. 1 min down on DonP, 30sec up on Dixie and Adam Ward. Bobby Quinn M45 in 27:21 Davie Thom (1st M50) 29:56.
Edel won ladies race.
Started steady, passed Dixie and Adam early in the second lap. Pulling steadily through until lost 5 places in field at the end and sprint finish. Course was very fast, landrover tracks with little mud. One big climb, but for Grant Park as flat as they could make it. Will have suited roadrunners.

54th is the same as last year, but then there were no M35s (12 ahead today) and a bigger field. Probably much the same then.
