MTBO race 1:37:00 [4] *** 25.0 km (3:53 / km)
ahr:160 max:177 spiked:9/12c slept:5.0 shoes: Giant XTC 2

Thought i would struggle as i had only slept 5hrs from yesterdays race.

I took off at the end of the field and tried to maintain an effort that would last for the race. Caught sight of Jen at 7 and lost her at 9 only to stumble accross her at 10 and then the race was on!!

It came down to a sprint alongside brookton highway on the wrong side, Jen staying on the bitumen and i on the gravel. I managed a 4m lead coming into the finish punch before i had to cross a ditch with loose gravel. i managed to bunny hop it only to hear jen come off at the same point. Ouch!!

Road Cycling race 58:00 [5] 27.0 km (2:09 / km)
ahr:177 max:186 shoes: Giant TCR 2

Started off well catching up and passing a few people on the road cycle. Tried to maintain tempo and not cook to early!! Rolling hills and various road surfaces to deal with.

Paddling race 1:08:23 [4] 10.0 km (6:50 / km)
ahr:156 max:179

Got onto the surf ski and immediatley felt the day befores paddle in my arms.!! My left leg gave me grief all the way which was not surprising considering the lack of paddling done!! Tried to draft a guy for the 3/4 of the paddle. Lost him just before the bridge turnaround.

Swimming race 22:00 [5] 1.0 km (22:00 / km)
ahr:140 max:181

I think the time says it all!! Got out of the swim and couldnt walk straight let alone run to my transition area. Battled trying to get the wettie off. Hadnt worn it in nearly 2 years. Massive head spins and a very slow transtion as i couldnt stand straight for fear of falling over.

MTB race 1:15:00 [5] 25.0 km (3:00 / km)
shoes: Giant XTC 2

Took a while to settle down after the swim but managed to claw my way back through the field on the ride. By the 20km mark i knew i was in trouble for the run as the tank was empty and the heat was getting to me. I was hydrated but the core temperature was rising to much for me to deal with.

running race 1:13:00 [3] 10.0 km (7:18 / km)
shoes: Teva X1 Racers

Surprised i made it to the end as i was baked. The heat had well and truly left me stuffed. The legs felt like they could turn over but the rest of the body was struggling with the heat. I could not cool down enough to continue at a jog. Tried to run a km and walk 250m but even that was an effort.

Spent 10min in the shower block after the race under a cold tap trying to reduce my temperature to help aid recovery. WAs happy that i finished and also under 5hrs but dissappointed about suffering so badly in the heat.

running 20:46 [3] 4.0 km (5:12 / km)
ahr:162 max:173 rhr:52 slept:8.0 shoes: Teva X1 Racers

Ran with Ben to test out my leg and also test out my new shoes. Both went well. The shoes are so comfy straight out from the box. Looking forward to racing in them this season. The leg was no problems except for excessive striding downhill caused the scabs to stretch or move with the bandage.

Sat now looks like its doable!!

MTB 1:30:00 [3] 18.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Giant XTC 2

Well what a start to my WA mtbing campaign. Only back in the state for 7 hrs and i have come a cropper. Went out with Tooms and Jen for an early mron ride out at the dell. Tooms was setting the pace until we reached the downhill run where he told me to take the lead due to my suicidal tendencies! I had a good fast run downhill and waited for the other two to reaapear. After 3min i knew something was amiss. I started to climb back up the trail to find them when they fianlly appeared. Tooms was showing small signs of a stack.

We continued on through to a creek crossing and climbed uphill to discover again no one following. At this stge a light drizzle appeared. I turned back again and discovered Jen had broke her chain. As we repaired it the heavons decided to open with everything it had stored. We took off soaked and the singletrack 5cm under water!! Tooms made the comment that it was my turn next!! Well done Tooms the Mocha has been placed.

I went over a table top a bit to quick and as i landed the rear wheel slipped out on a patch of mud!! i pancaked the bike on the gravel and as a result ended up with skin missing of my thigh, arm and shoulder blade!!

Continued on but avoided the climb up Gunjin as my wrist was sore from the impact!!
