Shenipsit Trail from commuter lot at Exit 67 to Belding, twice around Belding and then back. Early am to avoid expected heat. Two brief stops to give my "Your illegally unleashed dog is out of control." lecture.
Quick push around the neighborhood after half hour jog/walk warm up with Ghillie. Was going to do trails in Comtessa Woods but was driven back by army of FDFs.
Ghillie didn't want his morning walk, so went for a short neighborhood road circuit into the new development and back. Newest McMansion going up appears to have been designed by an architecture school dropout. Roof lines are all wrong.
Relaxed exploration of Hall's Pond in Eastford. Smallish but with at least a dozen islands. Maybe good for a canoe "O" sprint series? One upset beaver kept circling the boat, repeatedly surfacing and tail slapping. Nice high bush blueberries on one island that I was able to pick from the boat.
Slowest Fred Warren race yet even though this was the best weather conditions for running it that I can remember - sunnny/mid 70's. As usual, went out too fast and died on the big hill in mile 4. Really haven't put in the miles to race 5.5. Nothing has changed since the first time I ran this race in 1962 except the 3 bags of sugar I've added. As usual, I was the only WRHS runner from the '60's entered. Craig McColl was there, but only to call out the 3 mile splits.
