Monday Jul 31, 2006 #

mountain bike 35:00 [3]

Broadway, Rte. 31, Dunn Rd. and home before work.

Saturday Jul 29, 2006 #

trail running 1:05:00 [3]

Shenipsit Trail from commuter lot at Exit 67 to Belding, twice around Belding and then back. Early am to avoid expected heat. Two brief stops to give my "Your illegally unleashed dog is out of control." lecture.

Friday Jul 28, 2006 #

road run 20:20 [4]

Quick push around the neighborhood after half hour jog/walk warm up with Ghillie. Was going to do trails in Comtessa Woods but was driven back by army of FDFs.

Wednesday Jul 26, 2006 #

road run 32:00 [3]

Ghillie didn't want his morning walk, so went for a short neighborhood road circuit into the new development and back. Newest McMansion going up appears to have been designed by an architecture school dropout. Roof lines are all wrong.

Monday Jul 24, 2006 #

mountain bike 50:00 [3]

Quick road loop over by Kollas orchard. Legs a little weak after yesterday's race and an hour of "extreme mowing" this afternoon.

Sunday Jul 23, 2006 #

kayaking 1:00:00 [2]

Relaxed exploration of Hall's Pond in Eastford. Smallish but with at least a dozen islands. Maybe good for a canoe "O" sprint series? One upset beaver kept circling the boat, repeatedly surfacing and tail slapping. Nice high bush blueberries on one island that I was able to pick from the boat.

road run race 45:14 [4]

Slowest Fred Warren race yet even though this was the best weather conditions for running it that I can remember - sunnny/mid 70's. As usual, went out too fast and died on the big hill in mile 4. Really haven't put in the miles to race 5.5. Nothing has changed since the first time I ran this race in 1962 except the 3 bags of sugar I've added. As usual, I was the only WRHS runner from the '60's entered. Craig McColl was there, but only to call out the 3 mile splits.

Thursday Jul 20, 2006 #

road run 34:20 [3]

Country Club loop. Last pavement run before Fred Warren on Sunday.

Sunday Jul 16, 2006 #

road run 1:10:00 [3]

Early morning to avoid the worst of the predicted heat. Grant Hill to Tolland - through the woods by trail to North River Rd.

Saturday Jul 15, 2006 #

mountain bike 52:00 [3]

Circuitus pavement ride to farm stand to get corn on the cob for dinner.

Wednesday Jul 12, 2006 #

road run 30:00 [3]

Around the neighborhood.

Tuesday Jul 11, 2006 #

track 24:00 [4]

2400 meter pace workout. 1:50.25, 1:46.50, 1:46.82, 1:45.47, 1:44.06, 1:43.25. Then "sprinted" 100m in 18.42 sec, and finished up with 400m in 1:30.59

Sunday Jul 9, 2006 #

trail running 40:30 [3]

Short road run to Belding, then trails loop in Belding and Shenipsit back to the car.

Saturday Jul 8, 2006 #

hiking 3:30:00 [3]

Mattabesset Trail and others in Middletown with Ghillie and MHC. Very steep and very humid. A much tougher workout than I expected.

Tuesday Jul 4, 2006 #

hiking 55:00 [2]

Hockanum Trail from Buckland St. upstream to railroad bridge and back downstream. Parts of trail washed out during recent flooding.

Monday Jul 3, 2006 #

road run 32:15 [4]

Run home from Creaser Park in the heat of mid-day. Beat a thunderstorm by a minute or two.

Saturday Jul 1, 2006 #

mountain bike 1:03:00 [3]

Tour de Coventry. Lots of illegal fireworks in evidence.
