orienteering race 1:09:14 [3]

WOW did this suck!! Time is for first 5 controls of Red course at The Boulder Dash. Spent 28 minutes looking for #2 and then another 18 looking for #4 and eventually finding #5 first and going back to get #4. At that point, I decided to make the rest of my time in the woods a hike. Beautiful day.

hiking 52:00 [2]

Meandering hike back to finsh line from Red #4 with a side trip to locate #15 which I found on my second attack. I see that Clint had problems with #2 and #15 also. Small comfort. Can't help feeling that the 5 hours of driving and the 2 hours of frustration in the forest could have been better spent elsewhere.

road run 36:00 [3]

Pre-dawn run up to the end of Hannah culdesac and back. Didn't see large dead snake in the road by the light of my headlamp, so got quite a shock when I clomped on it. Looked to have been a 4 ft. black snake. I hate to lose one of those mouse killing machines.

road run 34:00 [2]

Pre-dawn run/walk around the neighborhood. I'm a wreck.

mountain bike 28:00 [2]

Easy ride up Hannah Lane to view the construction progress.

mountain bike 42:00 [3]

To farmer's market and back. Peach/raspberry jam, cucumbers and a couple of turnips. Hills on the way home were brutal.

road run 30:00 [3]

Short break from registration activities to get a little fresh air. I am sooo out of shape.

Sunday Sep 9, 2007 #

mountain bike 22:00 [3]

Pushing hard uphill to Topmost Herb Farm to be on time for the beekeeping workshop at Taste of Organic CT. Coasted home after a good workshop followed by good music and food.

trail running 21:46 [3]

Mason Rd. out and back in the rain.

hiking 1:10:00 [2]

Hike on new trail in Willington open space preserve after the run. Forest was damp, quiet and beautiful.

orienteering race 2:19:21 [3]

Slow but very enjoyable Red course at Pawtuckaway. Heat not a factor because I wasn't running. No problems with the ankle brace - wore thicker socks and no painful pressure points developed. Navigated without compass to add a little challenge. One really bad route choice from 2 to 3 and one directional screw up leaving 4 - otherwise pleased with my navigation and I love those GIANT rocks. Followed up with a refreshing swim.

kayaking 1:20:00 [2]

Morey Pond in Union. Explored the entire shoreline on both sides of I84. Trip through the tunnel is fun. Had planned to park the boat and explore Lead Mine Hill but the numerous No Trespassing signs seemed to mean business.

orienteering race 1:51:00 [3]

WCOC Score O at Trout Brook Valley on a beautiful sunny day. Trying out the brace. Only gave the ankle one good tweak even though I did quite a bit of running in the forest. Need to pad two points on the brace to make it a bit more comfortable. Score O time limit was 100 minutes, so I gave back most of my points in overtime penalties. Spiked 10 of the 13 controls and really blew two. Finished at #14 which was worth the most points but was farthest from the start/finish. Ran the trails back but way too slow.
Results are posted and I came in dead last. Mission accomplished.
