Early morning road loop before heading off to New Salem for Henderson Family Reunion #30 where I plan to add to my 1.1G with steamers, lobster, chili, chowder and beer.
Slow jog around the Skunkamaug loop. Wicked humid. Squadron of FDF's in hot pursuit the whole time. Several kills but two nasty bites. Gotta get my trap materials soon.
Walked sprint B at Charlie's with couple from Wethersfield who were orienteering for the third time. They had done yellow at Gay City and Crandall and agreed to try a sprint with help. They claimed to have had a great time and learned alot - about laurel.
Road ride - farm tour - I counted 3 active dairy farms, one herb farm, one sheep farm, two vegetable/ornamental farms. Long live local ag. The ride was a feast for the sense of smell with the odor of manure/sileage alternating with roadside honeysuckle.
Modified sprint A at Crandall. Tree that #4 was tied to is gone. Ball fields in use by legions of kids so 3 to 4 and 6 to 7 had to be modified some. Tried out the active ankle again with more success. I'll wear it again at Paugussett tomorrow.
All of the trails at Creaser Park at least twice, some 3 or 4 times. Beautiful cool evening - no bothersome bugs. AOWN: 2 foxes in the driveway when I got home. Can't say that I'll miss the rabbits.
Really fine day at Crandall Park. First meet on the map. Quite a few did both sprints and the green course. Terrain and facilities got an A+. Map is a work in progress, but worked well for almost everyone.
Gravel road along the shore of Snipsic Lake. Out and back, odometer shows about 3.2 miles. In a downpour for most of the way. AOWN: Huge snapping turtle in the road at the turn around point.
Gay City. Red course. Very much like the day of the 2001 Billygoat, thunder storms threatened in the morning - hot and muggy in the afternoon. One major nav mess up. Ankle a little sore. Stuck around for an hour of control pickup.
Rode from Bolton Motors to Birch Mtn. Rd. to Coups Sawmill Rd. to Hebron Ave. to Villa Louisa to Birch Mtn. to Route 85 and back to Bolton Motors. First ride outside since last fall. Really shaky on the rocky downhills on Coups Sawmill. Two hours was about twice what I should have done.
