hiking 2:05:00 [2]

Coney Rock Preserve and Fifty Foot Cliff in Mansfield. Brought the snowshoes but decided not to use them. Beautiful day. AOWN: 4 vultures perched on limbs at the top of the big cliff at Coney Rock with their wings spread to catch the sun. Trail passed very close to them and they did a little nervous hopping around as I went by but didn't fly away. Sorry I didn't have the camera in my pack.

Saturday Feb 9, 2008 #

hiking 1:55:00 [2]

Mostly in the woods between Carpenter Rd. and Grant Hill Rd. Light snow falling and coating everything. Came across some really fresh coyote tracks so began to follow. After about 100m the tracks changed from a walk to a run. Guess he must have figured out he was being followed. New hiking boots were great - warm and dry.

Pre-dawn Joshua Ln. North Farms Rd. and Babara Ln. Light dusting of snow overnight was crisscrossed with many animal tracks. Most of the trash bags left out overnight had been investigated by various animals and some had been torn open and contents strewn about.

hiking 56:00 [2]

To the end of Hannah and back in dense fog. Near the end of Hannah I could hear a car running but couldn't tell where it was until I almost walked into it. It was a police car, idling with all of the lights out including the interior lights and presumably with an officer inside. After I had gone by, the lights came on and the car drove away. ???
