Kendall Trail Run, in Friendsville, MD. Visiting our daughter in nearby Grantsville, MD. We found out yesterday there was this race this morning. I slept late (woke up at 8:00, race started at 9:00) and the weather didn't look great although not terrible. I was on the fence, and finally at around 8:30 I decided to try for it. Got dressed, drove to the race site, took a few minutes once in Friendsville to find it, got to the registration desk at 8:58. Hit the bathroom, and made it to the starting line about a minute before the start. Race was on a rail-trail in marginal condition, along the Upper Yough river. There were a couple of very muddy spots on the trail, but it was 95% mud free. Some light rain during the race. I finished 16th out of 47. No age group awards, but I was 3rd in the 60-69 group. First place in my group was a 60 year old who was 2nd overall in a time of around 20 minutes. Out of my league for sure.
GPS trace now loaded. GPS said 4.965 K, but I am going with 5K, hoping that the race course was measured accurately. Since it was mostly pretty heavily wooded, I can imagine that the GPS wasn't quite perfect. Splits were 9:11 first mile, 9:08 2nd mile, and 8:42 3rd mile.
