Ratlum Mountain Map. Course that had been designed by Charlie for his summer event. Went slowly and made significant errors on two controls. Learned quite a bit. Here are the lessons for the weekend: My vision was impaired a bit with my new glasses. My eyes were burning from sweat. (Wear a sweat band.) Hat came off several times. (Don’t wear a hat.) Was bothered by the wet, thick and thorny vegetation. (Avoid wet thick and thorny vegetation). (Don’t let the vegetation throw me off my route.) It all comes down to reading the map better.

Briones Short Brown. This was more like a Red course to me. Briones is always steep. There were many instances of precarious contouring on those steep and slippery slopes. Made about a 9 minute error on #3. Passed above the control. Looked down the reentrant and did not see it. So thought I had one more reentrant to go. However, it was actually in a smaller hidden reentrant. Just lousy map reading. Had a few bobbles on #2 and #4. After that things went smoother but still very slowly.
