MIX Thoughts

Overall this was a great race.
Paddling was some of the best I have ever done in a race (even better that abu). Nice combo of flatwater and moving water
Treking was tough with great nav. this area would make a great place for a rogaine
Checkpoints were all dead on
fun point to point course
the guys really put in some work and it showed as the organization was well run.

Unforunately there was lots of biking on pavement but this really can't be helped with a race of this size.

Definitely a race to do again. It was unfortunate that more teams didn't turn out as this was a race that is better than most. For multiday races, PQ doesn't compare baja was as good because of the terrain.

Our transitions were horrendous. We spent 3 more hours in TA than the second place team. We need to work on this.

Running race (trail) 6:33:00 [4] 10.0 mi (39:18 / mi) +2000ft 33:03 / mi

The plan was to possible sleep before this trek. I was amped up to go as it was getting near the end and the kittens were close behind. We had our fastest transition but should have spent more time sitting with Matt copying maps and strategizing. Went out fast and disorganized. slowly settled in. number of mistakes.

this place was a maze of depressions the whole map was full of inverted hills. worked through it slowly. I was real tired in the middle but got back to it at sunrise.

Mountain Bike race (road) 36:00 [4] 9.0 mi (4:00 / mi) +500ft 3:48 / mi

pavement down to paddle

Kayaking race (canoe) 4:42:00 [4] 27.0 mi (10:27 / mi)

final paddle and another great one. I started falling asleep right at the start. Mari took over the healm will a got a few minutes in the front of the boat. It started pouring and our senic float trip was over. We paddled out and got it done.

Mountain Bike race (road) 4:47:00 [4] 28.0 mi (10:15 / mi) +950ft 9:56 / mi

more riding on roads. They cancelled the cps on this section and told us to go directly to the paddle TA. We reoptimized to get as much pavement as possible. We moved real well until we couldn't find a road we were looking for. Not a nav error, we just couldn't find the road. i know it was there and in hindsite since the road we were on didn't have a dead end sign, we just didn't look hard enough. Used 2-3hr slowly working our way through to the TA.

Kayaking race (canoe) 4:44:00 [4] 27.0 mi (10:31 / mi)

we slept 2hrs in TA. good sleep. even mari slept. This was a beautiful paddle. down stream in a mellow meandering river. real interesting picking fast lines. We ate well and warmed up in the sun.

Running race (trail) 5:45:00 [4] 16.0 mi (21:34 / mi) +1500ft 19:48 / mi

nice trek. legs really started to hurt here. Severe tendonitis in left foot/ankle/calf. One minor error as i attacked a hill too soon but everything else was spot on. Lots of roads were we moved a bit slow (i just could run faster than a shuffle).

Mountain Bike race (road) 4:07:00 [4] 40.0 mi (6:10 / mi) +2000ft 5:54 / mi

nice bike leg. the team was real focused here. the section was flawless. Matt and Mari pulled hard on the roads. nice singletrack at the end.

Kayaking race (rafting) 2:42:00 [3] 10.0 mi (16:12 / mi)

rafting section on nice river lots of debris and we weren't real fast

Mountain Bike race (road) 5:01:00 [4] 48.0 mi (6:16 / mi) +1962ft 6:02 / mi

nice bike leg on pavement and forest roads. nav not too tough here. lots of sand/mud. i was pretty tired here

Running race (trail) 8:20:00 [4] 19.0 mi (26:19 / mi) +2600ft 23:18 / mi

real nice trek. good combo of off/onn trail/road travel. good nav. rogaine in the middle. We moved pretty good here.

Kayaking race (canoe) 7:14:00 [4] 33.0 mi (13:09 / mi)

great start to the race. We couldn't get the sails to work so we went without. Could have used them. CP0 had a get setup. We paddled between lakes and up rivers connecting them.

Didn't quite have it dialed. Started Mari/Me and switch to Brian/me about halfway. this was even more inbalanced so we used a tow wherever possible.

finished third a few minutes behind the leader

Mountain Bike race (road) 2:13:00 [4] 27.0 mi (4:56 / mi) +1145ft 4:44 / mi

all pavement got a flat

Mountain Bike race (trail) 1:10:00 [4] 12.0 mi (5:50 / mi) +2031ft 5:02 / mi

nice singletrack loop at boyne ski area. trail o format

Running race (trail) 11:35:00 [4] 33.0 mi (21:04 / mi) +3734ft 19:01 / mi

first big trek. great point to point combo of dirt road and off trail. tough nav. Made one mistake at the end. Was going to bushwack through swamp, found some roads which ended going the wrong way. Lost confidence and instead of bushwacking we took a long road around. cost us 45 min.

rained all night

Trainer/Spin intervals (spin class) 45:00 [4]

taught spin class. hard to get Hr up. legs were tired

Trainer/Spin (spin class) 54:00 [3]
ahr:110

Second class. I was supposed to teach but the absent instructor made it at the last minute so i sat in her class. legs were real tired. learned a few things.

My legs are not fast. Sometimes her cadence was so fast that I could never keep up. but others in the class could.

she did some thngs in the middle of class that I would never consider. standing with one arm behind her back, standing real real slow and different posture while standing.

does anybody else have experience with these moves? I try to focus on biking specific or more functional movements like high resistance climbs, or interals of varied lengths.

it was not real enjoyable for me but the class was 99% women and they were hooting and yelling and most seemed to enjoy it.

bike (road) 4:00:00 [3] 70.0 mi (3:26 / mi) +3750ft 3:16 / mi
slept:8.0

Classic hayes sufferfest. I forgot all electronics at home so we kinda guessed in the distance. Was hoping for a nice gps track.

Left Matt's house and headed SE down and across 16 made our way up to gorst and the skirted around bummertown up to wildcat. Followed some ice quiet roads down to belfair and then back hgome.

I just tried to stay in his slipstream and not embarrass myself too much on the climbs.

Mountain Bike (trail) 3:27:00 [3] 27.25 mi (7:36 / mi) +3000ft 6:53 / mi

singletrack heaven. After the work party we headed out for a ride. It was pouring the whole way and mddy mess. From Just above Fall Creek up greenline 8 (mimi/porter) to windekind and down almost to porter and back. Almost all single track
